I modestly propose that we eat all the smilies although how do you tell when they are ripe? Are they

As far as the OP goes, I just love using smilies. 
They’re so much fun, and I like to have fun. But, I don’t think everyone has to use smilies if they don’t want to. I don’t think it makes a person better or worse if s/he uses or doesn’t use smilies. It’s just a personal choice for how to go about expressin’ oneself. I don’t understand what folks what don’t use smilies are getting so upset for. They’re harmless. Really. Smilies won’t hurt anyone. And they can brighten up some folks’ lives. If folks don’t want to play with them, then let the smilies alone. It’s really that simple.
Smilies do add color to a post… as well as providing an indication of the joking / sarcastic / burning / expressions of the poster.
