I’ve persuaded my best friend James, about whom you’ve heard so much, to join the board. So, please give a warm Doper welcome to Hamish!
Hi there Hamish! Any friend of Matt’s is, well… probably a total fucking flaming-ass queer-boy!
Right on!
Welcome aboard!
BTW, is your name from BraveHeart? I’m sure it’s a traditional name, but in my ignorance, that is the only place I’ve heard it.
Yo Hamish, welcomd to SDMB
Here’s a hi from Sweden.
Hej!
Friend of Matt’s, eh? As the the professors at the University of Wallamaloo once asked, “Are you a poofter?”
Not that there’s anything wrong with it.
Welcome!
Poofter, schmoofter, let’s get to the important stuff, namely (ha!):
Is your name pronounced HAME-ish (long ‘a’) or HAM-ish? I’ve always wondered, not knowing any Hamishes.
Anyhoo, welcome.
Hi,
Matt persuaded me to join the board. It sounded like a good thing to do, since a good intellectual debate is sometimes hard to come by. (Some of my friends are still arguing paper or plastic).
I live in Montreal, where I engage in the municipal pass-time – calling myself an aspiring writer – and I’m currently studying English Literature. I hope to get a bachelor’s degree, so I can be the envy of the employees in whatever fastfood restaurant I eventually find myself working in.
Welcome aboard, Hamish. I’m relatively new here too.
Oh, I live in D.D.O. (in the West Island), BTW.
In answer to some questions,
It’s traditional Scottish. It’s the equivalent of James, which is what Matt calls me. And it is my real name. My parents were that cruel. The Irish form is Seamus.
It’s HAME-ish. I get called HAM-ish a lot though.
Who do you think taught Matt everything he knows? Got a damn fine toaster oven when I recruited him.
-- Hamish
Welcome to our merry band, Hamish.
dropzone, it’s Wooloomooloo, and it’s a real city in Australia. I know, it sounds made up, but hey, so does Des Moines.
::notices Hamish::
Oh, hey Hamish, welcome the the Board, man.
So, anyway, dropzone, did you find it ironic that they were all against poofters, but they were all named Bruce? I mean, that’s a name that has a certain connotation here in America…
::walks off deep in conversation with dropzone::
Any man who quotes old onion articles is Ok by me!
Welcome aboard!
Hi, Hamish.
Hey hey hey! That’s what passes for an intellectual debate over here at the SDMB. Please read this discussion - Paper or Plastic
Now don’t try to bring any high-falutin’ ideas over here. We’re perfectly happy counting our toes and discussing the Dukes of Hazzard.
Hamish/James is the James from the article, right? If so, that was an interesting article, Hamish.
Oh, and welcome.
Hi, Hamish -
Fellow newbie here. You’ll really like it. (Join the barfight - you might not find intellectual discussion, but you get to hit people with chairs and they don’t mind! Always a plus.)
God, just what we need, more fucking canadians…
I mean Hi Hamish, good to meet you. Don’t mind me, I’m the incredibly offensive socialist who lurks in the corner.
BTW, the article Frannie’s talking about is linked to in this thread: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=33335
Hi Hamish, how’s it going? When I first saw your name, I was thinking “Hameesh.” Have fun on the boards, and have a nice day.
Hello, Hamish.
I’m new too… just signed on today, matter of fact.
It was the great matt_mcl that got me started on this, though. Long time ago. Now let’s see if he remembers who I am… hint… YGS list poet delaware girl. By a different name.
Anyway, I’ve heard oodles about you. Hope the password comes back soon.
