Please tell me Echo got a home!

Oh good! I’ve never seen the commercials, but there is also a magazine ad featuring Echo (still at the shelter). I came across it last night, and was crying like a baby. I came home, and hugged my dogs extra tight. And the kitties, too.

Those commercials make me wish we had the space and time for a dog. We have 2 cats (one from the SPCA, one from a farm) and that’s our limit, but I’d love to have a dog one day too. Just not in this apartment (besides, our landlord asked that we didn’t get one), and not with the hours and routine we currently have.

One day, maybe. And we’ll get it from a shelter when we do.

I saw the new Echo commercial just yesterday, where they tell you she got a home, and I thought Oh, that’s such good news! Echo got a home! And then I thought Perhaps I’m over-invested in television commercials. Seriously, it was like the best news I got all day. Slow day, but still.

Then again, a taxidermied hamster is a better actor than Kevin Costner.

That commercial… got something in my eye.

If you have the room and time for one, retired Greyhounds are great pets. Some of them are all right with cats, others are not, so it depends on whether you have cats in your family at the time. I just wanted to mention this, as I very much doubt that retired Greyhounds are found in a shelter. I think that most of them are in breed rescue organizations.

I saw the ad yesterday, too. She looks so happy!

KayElCee - If you go to the Pedigree website you can watch the ad. Echo just makes you cry.

StG

GODDAMNIT!

Why, oh why did I watch that at work? Now I’m bawling my eyes out.

Happy doggy!!!

ETA - Now my husband is mad at me because I called home to talk to MY shelter dog on the phone. Yes, I called my dog on the phone. So?

I saw the new commercial really late last night and immediately thought I’d come screaming in here and holler the good news. I didn’t do it immediately, though, and opted to stay in bed. So here I am , happy that I’ve been beaten to the punch! Yay Echo!

Time and our landlord are really the biggest reasons why we don’t have one. I think legally we could have dogs, but the landlord has had bad experiences in the past, and since this apartment is hardwood throughout, with some original wood doors, etc, he really doesn’t want them damaged. He asked that we didn’t get dogs, and we agreed, though he really has no limits/doesn’t care about us having cats. We think that’s fair.

We are also very busy. I’m at school anywhere from 8-12 hours a day most days, and we like to go out of town to see family and friends on weekends. My husband works irregular hours sometimes (like tonight!) too.

Besides, this is a second-story apartment, no access to a yard at all, on a busy road - not the best place for a dog! Ideally I’d want a set up where I could just open the door and let the dog out in the morning, if we are in a hurry or busy (like my parents have at their place). The dog would get walked, but sometimes, they just need to pee and taking them out (even with a park across the street) isn’t really that convenient.
I did know someone with a rescued greyhound, and he was the laziest, best apartment dog ever! And they had a tiny place - at least we have a good 1100 sq ft here! A rescue is something I’d consider. I’m just pretty certain I wouldn’t want a purebred - though my sister has had two (golden retrievers). They are great dogs, but I can’t really justify the cost and there are so many other great dogs that need a home!

A couple of years ago, in a different apartment and a different city, I came very close to adopting a 12 year old wolfhound, whose elderly owners had both died. The dog only needed a loving place to live out his last days. He was adopted before I could convince my husband to go down to the shelter!

I have to change the channel when those come on otherwise my partner and I cry like babies. We have 4 cats and 2 dogs, all rescues. It kills me that we just don’t have the room or resources to take in more. :frowning:
[MISPLACED ANGER]Screw you David Duchovny. [/MISPLACED ANGER]

David Duchovney?

Could you repeat that please?

mnemosyne, if you can’t adopt, how about donating some time and/or money at the local shelter? That way you can help the doggies/kitties but not have to worry about your landlord.

He’s the voice on those commercials.

Well, I think he’s great but I feel a little dirty when he says that line “seriously, rub my belly.” Well, it’s my mind that’s a little dirty.

Why did they use a man’s voice for the Echo commercial? The one where the Pedigree site says she got a home. Is he just supposed to be all dogs? Does his voice play on the commercial as it’s airing on TV?

It does. Duchovny is their commercial voice/spokesperson for their campaign.

IIRC, last year’s dog, Oliver, did get adopted not long after the ad ran, so assuming that Echo isn’t a “pro,” I bet he’s found a home by now.

Shoulda read the whole thread before posting - I’m glad Echo found a home! I have to avoid these ads, too. Sob, sob, sob!
