He’s probably be surprised to see me do this, but please welcome City Gent to the boards. He recently registered after reading Cecil’s columns and the mailbag for a while, and started posting in the past week.
City Gent is a very old friend of mine. We actually were in the 2nd grade together for a brief period, until my family was stationed in Germany. When we moved back to my hometown in 1982, we were friends from 7th grade through graduation. Although we hadn’t been in touch in a long time, we got back in touch recently.
He’s a great guy, with a lot of smarts, and extremely funny to boot. (We used to watch “Benny Hill” and “Big Chuck and Little John” [familiar to you current and former Clevelanders) all the time in school. If you say him around the boards, please be sure to say, “Hello!”
Benny Hill, funny? Have you been sniffing glue again, Phil?
I have to admit I just raised an eyebrow when I noticed City Gent reviving a year old thread in the Pit. Unfounded eyebrow-raising, luckily
A friend of pldennison is … someone to be scared of!
Or maybe not. Welcome aboard City Gent! Hope you like it here. Your first task in dispelling ignorance is:
In two paragraphs of less, distill for us the essence of “Big Chuck and Little John”.
Yep our lil ssskuggiii is fun rather than scary.
Welcome aboard City Gent. It’s not only an interesting place but an intelligent if somewhat whimsical stop on the info superhighway. Just be honest, open and have fun and you’ll be fine.
That wouldn’t be the kid I grew up with in 2nd grade in Germany?
They called you Stadt Herr in those days.
(Or was is Kleine Dorp Kind?)
Ach! What great false memories these are!
Thank you all for the warm welcome, and I especially appreciate pldennison’s introduction.
Big Chuck and Li’l John…Sophomoric, silly, and not afraid to make the occasional gentle ethnic or sexist joke. Sort of a proto-MST3K. You’ve gotta appreciate a Pole and an Italian who base half their skits on making fun of the Midwestern “Certain Ethnic” personality.
Re: Maryland drivers. I could hazard a guess, but since I live in California, it’d be only a guess.
Welcome, Welcome. Let’s see…13 posts and already you’re causing trouble. FTR, I am one of those Maryland drivers…and the worst drivers I’ve ever seen were on the left coast, not here!
