The “traditional” SDMB Initiation Ceremony involves a goat, a squid (say hi, Mariah!), and various other accoutrements. Or at least the frequent mention of them in the thread.
There are some negative nellies who think the whole initiation thing is silly and childish, but to them I say :p!
Well, it is silly and childish. Which is probably why I find it so entertaining! I also still watch PeeWee’s Playhouse on video! 
Hilary, the lime Jell-O is one of the oft-mentioned “initiation” ingredients. See, we have this big vat of it. Sometimes the squid is in there. . .
PS: jayjay did you know that “Mariah” is mudgirl’s real name? Course, she’s geeky enough that she probably would think being “upgraded” to the level of ‘squid’ is cool!
Oh, just to clarify for Hilary, mudgirl is my 9YO daughter; she got her “username” (though she’s not old enough to join!) at a DopeFest when she was but four. She found a huge mud puddle and kept insisting it was “a little lake”. She played in it all day long, and earned the title “mudgirl”.
Yep, I knew that! I don’t think there’s any connection, though…IIRC, I made a joke about “And they call the squid Mariah” once and it stuck.

Captain Carl ordered the whole bill of fare but got nothing more than a $5.00 Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. That would be maybe $10-$15 in today’s coin.
Captain Carl felt he was not getting a very good value but Pee Wee reminded Captain Carl that the sandwich did include jelly
OMG, that show was so funny! I happen to think Paul Reuben got a really raw deal with what happened to his career.
I remember the episode where he talks about (and demonstrates) all the things you can do with a really large pair of ‘tighty whities’.
