A few days ago Maleinblack left Bombay, India for Minneapolis. On the 7th of September he will start his Masters degree at the University of Minnesota.
He is a clever chap, he applied to 9 American universities and was accepted at 6. He is very happy to have been accepted and is looking forward to his all this new experience will bring. He is also sad about leaving his mum and his fiance for such a long time.
I know he will do really well but I would love some of you to send him some good wishes. He is a long way from home so good wishes never hurt. There are not many people on this planet as sweet, caring and kind as he is. He was the very first person I met online, about 5 years ago and has become a defacto member of the family. Not many 23 yr old blokes would happily give up the time and energy to be email/messenger pen friends with a 12 year old (my son).
Fingers crossed and best wishes for your first day Satish! I will be thinking of you! Don’t forget to let Aunty Kelly know all about the first day!
Play nice with the other kids and don’t backchat the teachers

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you, but come about February, it may well get that cold. But never fear, Minnesotans have learned how to cope with it. Skyways (and tunnels at the U of M), enclosed shopping malls, and hot chocolate.

Are you living on campus? Have transportation? If not, the bus system is pretty darn good.
One warning, if you want to explore the Hell of America, bring company. Don’t go alone. You may never find your way out.
Thanks for the advice Tastes of Chocolate, I have already started learning my way around the U of M tunnels. And MissTake thank you for the offer of help. I always knew that I could turn to the wonderful doper community in times of need, but thankfully as of now everythings fine.
I am staying like 15 minutes from the campus on University Ave along with a couple of other students. Infact I was staying temp all these days and will be moving in with the other guys tommorow.
I am really sorry calm kiwi for not having kept you updated about my whereabouts, I had my first day of classes today and was a bit busy running around trying to get some paperwork done.
Good luck! I just finished my undergrad at the U of MN. It’s a fabulous school. I echo the others in saying Dress Warm! It doesn’t matter how dorky you look, wear as many layers as you need to keep warm!
Also, don’t be offended if your friends don’t recognize you when you are all bundled up.
Last semester we had some particularly cold days and I was so bundled with hats and scarves that my friends didn’t recognize me when I passed them!
Anyway, have fun, I am kind of sad that I am not starting school today.
Oh yeah, if you don’t live on campus, buy a bus pass. Only 50 bucks a semester, it is quite handy!
