Plot hole in remade Total Recall

Why did they midewipe Hauser at all in the remake?

In the original Total Recall it was done because Quatto was a mutant and psychic, he can peer into your mind and there is no way to fool him. So they needed Hauser to be rewritten with a new personality that could pass the leaders psychic test, but other stuff went wrong that messed up the plan.

Again in the remake the leader is just a guy, and the second they put Hauser in the chair a computer virus or whatever takes over. :dubious: There was no intent to fool anyone here.

I liked the movie better then most people seemed to, but yea, it felt like they left a few minutes of necessary exposition on the cutting room floor somewhere. I don’t think we ever find out what Bryan Cranston’s original plan was. He obviously never meant Hauser to make the visit to Rekall that triggered his memories. So he was going to leave him thinking he was a factory worker and then…what?
