Pluribus (New Vince Gilligan show on AppleTV)

What’s the conundrum? The others don’t kill.

They are not part of this tale. We know one is living it up in Vegas. Another has her son to deal with. The other ten are perhaps as lonesome as Carol was. No idea what their plans are.

Manuosos would have been heard saying, “My name is Manuosos. I want to save the world”, his challenge to the folks at the Darien Gap, “All you have it stolen”. Presumably GPS or police motorcycle cops will lead him to Carol’s cul-de-sac where he’ll be paired with Carol who has said to Zosia basically the exact same thing.

Nobody’s killing (on purpose). They have a vast disagreement on humanity and are shielded by the niceness/not killing of the Plurbs. Saving the world means there’s still around 7 billion non-plurbian people.

I’m not following this. Clearly, saving the world to Manuosos means un-plubing the plurbs.

As far as distribution of HDP… I don’t see why that should be necessary. The need for it should be in proportion to the population in an area. And you know what else should be proportional to the population of a given area? The mortality rate.

Or, ok. Maybe the mortality rate isn’t the same everywhere right now. But then again, once the world becomes Pluribus, it seems like the most efficient way to ensure uniform distribution of HDP is to, rather than try to gather up bodies from far-flung areas beyond the range of a processing facility and then ship the processed “food” back… the simplest thing to do would be to consolidate the population around processing stations. They’ve had 60 days to do that.

Some people will need to remain at orchards, I suppose, to pick up the windfalls, but that wouldn’t involve transporting train loads of “food” between population centers. Rather, it would involve transporting food from the population centers to the orchards and returning with the windfalls. Those who are known to be at high risk of mortality, like the terminally ill? Must surely have been moved close to the processing centers weeks ago.

So my vote is for array parts.

ETA: Oh, and other mundane things. Like fuel and such. Other “consumables” (in the logistics sense, not the food sense).

Clearly I said just that. Saving the world to Manuosos is returning the identity of the population of the world. His differentiation is these humans he was addressing, “stole” all they have, Yet he knows they’ll leave him be, attempt to serve sumptuous meals and he’s having none of it. Yet like it as not, he was brought to Panama and despite medical advice, checked himself out and is just about to Carol, Who shares the same goal.

Yeah, something like that. Like if dogs can smell cancer on a person and if they can detect what makes an Other an Other, then maybe Bear Jordan could point Carol in a direction to reverse the joining.

I mean, he trotted right over to Carol, gave her the shoe and then stayed by her side. That’s a little weird. Admittedly, it would have been more on the nose if he was still sitting by her while she slept but he wasn’t.

But it’s probably just a reflection of the larger part of the story about companionship.

The “windfall” rule would seem to be unique to VG here. The Plurbs have to know that following this will decimate their population (And thus less for Carol and Manu to save). With the brain trust of the world at their disposal, they will modify fruits and veggies so they don’t go “ouch!” should you pick them.

Why they have to do this I’ve no idea. How to accomplish it has not really been a priority of modern farmers to harvest “windfall”. Surely a million (WAG) botanists and geneticists can accomplish something before the HDP runs out, else that will remain a supply and nobody wants that!

Man, as if Laxmi wasn’t already so angry with Carol, how much more pissed will she be once she learns Carol effectively nailed her son?

The thing is that (from what we saw) she’s delusional about her son still being an individual, so she wouldn’t interpret it that way since Carol didn’t do anything to her son’s (former) body.

I dunno about that. Yeah, she’s in denial, but we’ve seen how irate she gets when she’s confronted with the reality.

But then again, since Ravi already had Helen’s memories, he already knew every nook and cranny of Carol’s engorged tingly naughty parts.

Carol is, and has been from the start, the most lonely of the twelve, and the most like Manousos.

Consider: Carol is a writer, a solitary occupation. She seems to be estranged from her blood relatives (the parents who attempted conversion therapy when she was a teen, her (ETA: cousin) who she hasn’t seen in decades). Her main connection to other people was to Helen, both professionally and personally. And when Helen died, she was cast adrift and - let’s face it - seeking revenge on the hive mind that had so changed her world and killed the one person in it who meant the most to her in every way.

The others we have seen had familial ties maintained in the transition to Joining, and so the hive mind was able to put them at ease shortly after the chaos of transition. Carol was amid the knocked-out Joined trying to get help for Helen, so her first experience with them was of complete indifference. It stands to reason that all the other survivors would be more favorably disposed to the Joined than Carol.

Ok, so going to call it as to the direction it’s going in… Spoilered, just in case…

Carol and co frees Zosia, and a few others, the amounts grow, and with this new world of the now immune, they go on to create a world of “happy slavery”, a new “confederacy”, possibly hijacked by the horrible people who thought the confederacy was good. Carol then isn’t happy with THAT.

I did kind of wonder whether lighting and heating a stadium was more energy efficient than doing so for a hotel. Especially as there didn’t seem to be that many people there. But that’s not a major point.

Meanwhile, my Cordyceps ant theory continues to gather evidence, in that “infect, control, propagate” seems to be exactly how the “alien virus” works. The Others are building a giant antenna to pass the info virus onwards even though it will require all the energy in the world and even though it will result in mass deaths to the people involved. Their “biological imperative” is absolutely not in their best interests.

Yeah the discussions along those lines have been had since first two ep drop. They just confirmed it. What quickly became clear though is that for this show

If joining the hive is some sort of ultimate enlightenment-end goal, continued existence is only important for one thing - to share the gift. Once everyone receives the gift on Earth and it is re-transmitted into space - mission accomplished. Everyone is content to take a dirt nap. Their only concern now are those unfortunate dozen and getting that transmitter built. The perpetuation of humanity isn’t a concern, let alone in their “best interest”.

If Lakshmi ever confronts this particular reality I imagine she’ll be far more irate with Diabate than Carol.

Someone will have to tend to the array. Perhaps a population of hundreds of thousands remaining around orchards and engaging in scavenging acting as caretakers.

My take on the rat in episode 1:

I don’t think it was plurb’d like the humans are, or that it was feigning death in order to strike. I think it may have simply been ill or something. When the lab tech started prodding it with her fingers, it roused the sick rat enough, and did what threatened, sick rats do – bite in defense.

It just so happened to be one of the rats infected with the correct RNA recipe to make people start plurb’n.

I can’t find it now but, having thought the same thing, I Googled it and Gilligan says he never saw the Rick & Morty episodes before writing “Pluribus”. At some point he heard of the similarity, watched the Rick & Morty episodes and said something like, “Oh damn” and suggested, had he known, he likely would have altered “Pluribus” in some fashion (not specified).

It’d be called Plumbus

People keep referring to the others as plurbs, shouldn’t they be unums?
