“V Renewed for Second Season”
Well, good for V. I hope Flash Forward is renewed as well.
Also gone- Better Off Ted. Dammit.
I figured ABC would choose either V or FlashForward but not both. Pity, because I kind of liked FF (in a cheesy way) but thought the first few episodes of V were pretty terrible and never watched the rest.
Mixed emotions though - that’s one less show I have to keep up with next season, which is always good.
Yay for V, bummed about FF.
I stopped watching V during ep. 6 when I was a bit too bored to excuse the strange logic any longer.
But I’d like to know at least one thing that bugged me to no end: Have the resistance people explained in the meantime, why they don’t simply reveal the true alienness of the Vs to the public? I just could never grasp, why they wouldn’t. What’s the drawback?
Apparently Heroes is likely to be axed - maybe a 4hr mini-series to tie up loose ends
Dammit. I was getting into FF. Now they’ll have to do a quick wrap up with the characters dreaming the entire show while on their voyage to Mars or something.
Or maybe Bob Newhart wakes up in his bed, turns to his wife and says “I had the weirdest dream”. I could actually go for that.
dammit. that was the only series where even the commercials were fun to watch.
I guess they figure no one will believe them unless they have hard evidence, like a corpse with the human skin peeled back.
Also, as I recall in the original miniseries there was a reporter who shot footage of the Vs on their spaceship eating gerbils and revealing their scaley skin and lizard eyes, but when his network tried to air it the Vs shut down the broadcast.
How would they go about doing that? Capture some random Visitor (or use Ryan), skin him/her in their secret lair, and post the whole thing on Youtube? The Visitors would promply claim it was fake and someome would demonstrate how the whole thing was done with Hollywood special effects. They would need to do it to a very high profile V (like Anna herself) in a very public setting and they haven’t gotten that chance yet.
What I would like to hear is Anna’s explanation as to why the Vs look (& dress) exactly like humans; Chad brough it up in the pilot and she said she could explain, but she never did onscreen. Whatever it was it most have been a very good one and widely accepted by the general public since.
At this point I don`t think there is much potential benefit. They’ve done so much to help the humans that people would continue to believe they’re benevolent even if they were revealed to be lizards. In the show’s defense, nobody has ever said “and the Vs are so much like us!” In spite of looking like humans, everybody seems to understand that they’re quite different. But they like their healing powers and energy.
Well, that’s one series I’m following that’s safe. I’m still reeling from ABC’s decision to pull the plug on Happy Town after only two episodes. The announcement came the day before they showed the third episode, the remaining five will be shown sometime in June (although I can’t imagine who’ll be watching when they know that nothing is going to be resolved.)
OK, it wasn’t the greatest of shows but damn it I was just beginning to get involved in the plot.
I was wondering about that too. Like when Lisa takes off her clothes in one of the early episodes when she’s in Tyler’s bedroom, she’s wearing what appear to be typical-style bra and panties like you would find in any American department store. You’d figure they’d at least make their undergarments different (not that I’m complaining about seeing Lisa’s undergarments ).
I’m watching V, and I really want to like it…but it’s just not a very good show IMO.
Flashforward, while frequently extremely silly, I thought was quite entertaining.
I agree. So they do it and Anna says, "We always change our forms to match the planets we visit. I’m sorry if you thought we were deceiving you. We try not to frighten people. Oh, and here’s the cure for cancer. Or…did you want us to leave?

Oops. Code Spasm/
Having a real V on your side should provide the resistance with enough convincing evidence to sway at least a couple of million people around the world. Any denial by the V would certainly result in more than just a handful of people trying to find out the truth for themselves.
And while the V could argue that they hid their true forms from humans to gain trust more easily, they would still have been caught in a major lie – and Ryan(?), I mean the V resistance fighter, and his V-friends could provide information about further, far more damning lies: that they are on earth far longer than they claim to be, that they are not as peaceful as they want to appear (the res really should have documented their fights with them), that their motives are rather selfish than benevolent etc.
Sure, many, maybe most people wouldn’t believe it or not everything, but it would still raise doubts in many – and since we are talking about the whole population of earth, even far less than one-tenth of a percent of them all translates into lots of people starting to think and act.
More evidence would soon raise to the surface and since neither the world media nor the internet are controlled by the aliens, it would spread.
It’s just wrong that the resistance allows the V to control the way they fight, well, that they allow them to work via control in the first place: manipulation can be hidden relatively easily, domination by power, however, is far more obvious.
If they want to keep something secret, do the opposite and make it public, show the manipulation, show the lies and force them to reveal for all to see how they tick.
Hell, yeah. I was waiting for some dialogue during the first episodes that showed some discussion about the curious happenstance that aliens look exactly like humans. In reality, this would raise more than an eyebrow, but I guess we are suppossed to believe that the scientific community has nothing to say about that in the V-verse.
Also, have they explained why they have human, and, in particular, western-sounding names?
I think you’ve got a point with all this, but there is the risk that the Vs would just abandon the (relatively) peaceful measures they’ve been using so far and resort to Independency Day-style destruction and subjugation which would arguably be worse. I don’t know that the 5C characters or show writers are thinking about this, but it could be better to let the Vs have that deception for now until some other crippling blow can be struck that would make rising up against the Vs a more attractive option.
Eh, they choose names that humans can associate with. For all we know, Anna is known among her people as Gozablat. But unless they’re going to subtitle it every time we see them talking on a ship…
I guess they could have gone with the old ‘Our name is unpronounceable by your puny human tongues’, but who isn’t sick of that?
