Here’s a question that’s been in the back of my mind for a number of years and came back to the forefront while enjoying the cerebral delights of the Straight Dope on-line: Back in college I had one belligerent feminist professor who informed us that PMS was a myth inflicted on women by patriarchal society because it wanted to discredit them as rational thinkers and another belligerent feminist professor who told us that PMS was real and that it wasn’t receiving enough attention because patriarchal society enjoyed slighting the needs of women. I introduced them and they both attacked me. But what’s the deal? Is PMS real or is it a myth?
