It looks cute. If I hadn’t seen the trailer and you just explained the concept, I’d probably say no way. Pokemon is past my time as well. The execution looks fun though.
And yeah, it’s a little weird, Ryan Renolds voice has become almost typecast as Deadpool for me so seeing him as Pikachu is jarring, but I think I could get used to it.
Around 1:30 in the video (and again at the end) there is a flash of some sort of large inflatable pikachu–I wonder if we are going to be graced with Picachu’svagina?
I’ve only seen Resident Evil, which was silly, to say the least. I don’t know if I consider the value of entertainment that movie provide me to be ‘good’.
It’s just that when I heard of this movie I thought it was ridiculous. But when I saw the trailer it was unexpectedly good. It shouldn’t be good. It shouldn’t work at all. We still don’t know the story, (unless you’ve played the game and which I hear it seems to be emulating,) but seems like the scenario in which the story is set is established nicely within the two trailers.
…I may or may not have owned the soundtrack at one time. Which, ftr, is freaking awesome.
But as for the movie this thread is supposed to be about lol I was kinda excited for it after the first trailer. And then when I was watching this second one, I was thinking ‘Sigh…it would be so cool if Mewtwo was in it’. Which was quickly followed by a verbal and quite excited ‘Oh fuck me! No way!!’ Mewtwo’s my absolute favorite lol Now if Lucario’s in the movie too? I’m gonna just die.
Someone online said the trailers are giving away too much, and I kinda agree.
I don’t completely know his role, but I think seeing MewTwo just show up on screen would be a huge “Oh SHIT!” moment for the audience. You already got me as a Pokemon fan to see the movie, you don’t need to keep showing me Snubbul and Snorlax and Bulbasaurs
(Unless it’s Psyduck…always need more Psyduck)
What you need to do is convince my wife to see the movie because she only knows a handful of Pokemon and most of those are because I’ve shown them to her.
I’m not a Pokemon fan, and I think this movie looks like the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a long time.
That said, when I heard the premise for The Emperor’s New Groove, I thought it sounded like a train wreck crossed with a dumpster fire, but it ended up being one of my all-time favorite animated movies, so go figure. They made a bizarre premise work. Maybe they can do it for this one too.
I doubt I’ll go see it in the theater, but I might catch it on Netflix or On Demand.
I’ve read the plot of the game this is based on, and I don’t think it’s spoiled too much at all. You don’t know why dad disappeared. You know Mewtoo is there, sure, but not why the mystery would involve him. You don’t know why they keep needing to fight when being a detective and going around beating gym leaders are different things.
