POKÉMON Detective Pikachu - Looks... pretty cool.

A new video is released that’s a “casting” of the Pokemon. It shows a bunch of who’s going to be in the movie.

Check it out

And you know what? It has juuuuuuuust enough Psyduck.

I think that’s my favorite too

Movies are much more fun that way. I went into The Matrix not knowing a single thing about it. I thought Trinity was one of the bad guys because, hey, she just killed a bunch of cops. The blue pill/red pill reveal blew me away as I was not expecting that at all.

I also went into Who Framed Roger Rabbit not knowing anything about it. Hadn’t even seen a movie poster. I thought the opening sequence was a pre-movie cartoon.

Trailers ruin movies.

No to de-rail the thread, but I think that’s more of a fault of the trailer than trailers in general. A good trailer will tease the movie and entice you to see it without giving too much away. A bad trailer (and there seem to be more bad than good) will give parts of the movie away and ruin it.

I am looking forward to this movie. I have played Pokemon games and I was given the game Detective Pikachu. I did finish it and thought the plot was OK, although it needs a sequel whenever Nintendo can get around to releasing one in a few years. Mostly, I just enjoyed the whole world the game existed in. There were no Poke-balls for one thing. The pokemon were simply hanging around often replacing existing urban wildlife (like rats, pigeons or seagulls) or working animals, or basically as pets. And yeah, Detective Pikachu from the game is easier to picture as Danny Devito, but hey, it’s voice acting, who knows?

So far, I’m hearing a wide range of opinions, though it seems to have more of a moderately positive perception than those who disliked it. I’m a little disappointed. I did hear from two people who absolutely loved it. So, perhaps it’s an aquired taste. Weirdly some of the reviews I’ve read credit Ryan Reynolds for making the film more enjoyable.

I’ve still only seen the two trailers and the Ryan Reynolds ‘Becoming Detective Pikachu’ skit. Whether or not not the film is any good, the two movie trailers, which I tend to judge separate from the movie on their own, where really well done and have peaked my interest enough to see it despite a certain amount of criticism.

So far 71% on RT. Not that I see that as an authority.

Ok… Saw it finally.

Pretty good actually. The villain and most of the relationship between the main character and his love interest fall a little flat. I, (not knowing Pokemon,) could get most of what was going on.

I saw it in 3D and would recommend others see it that way too, if you feel inclined. The world of Pokemon is very beautiful.

Also this movie is ‘scarry’ at times, also 2 or 3 ‘jump scares’. I don’t want to reveal too much, but the Pokemon Ditto can be terrifying.

7.5

If I were a fan I probably be inclined to give it an 8.

Rodger Rabbit’s plot was just as thin, but made a little more sense.

I also saw it yesterday with my kids. Honestly, it was kind of boring. I was surprised because the trailers made it look pretty fun and funny.

It was a little funny, but it dragged a lot and the opening 20 minutes were totally dull. My 8 year old son was not that into it and he collects the cards. My 10 year old daughter liked it more.

6/10

:shrugs:

Saw it last night with the dorkling. He wanted to go see a dogs journey (bleh) but jumped at the chance to see this instead. Cute, funny, Ryan Reynolds comes through clearly, but not Deadpoolishly. It was way better than Aquaman. Solid 7 out of 10

I saw it with the kids at the weekend, and it got a pretty solid thumbs up from everyone involved. Actually funny, some playing about with who was actually the bad guy to keep things interesting, and lots of cute pokemon.

I also saw Aquaman and would put this above it. Aquaman had a great opening 10 minutes and was then just a really boring stupid movie. I kind of hated how much wasted potential it had.

I understand they’re already planning sequels I just hope this one does well enough to justify them.

With Aquaman, the action/fight scenes were pretty good, the depiction of Atlantis was neat, everything else sucked hard. Yeah, good story with a lot of wasted potential

Pikachu movie was cute and fun, I might actually go see it again once it hits the 2nd run theaters

So Detective Pikachu’s the highest grossing video game adaptation now.

Would people on here who’s seen the flick like to weigh in on whether or not it’s the best Video Game to Film adaptation?
