I have been tasked by my boss to come up with a new achievement for a (texas holdem) poker video game I helped make last year. The only requirement is that the achievement have a “summertime theme.” I am wracking my brain to come up with some sort of pun relating to poker and summertime. The best I have come up with so far is “(Cow)Boys of Summer” which would fire if you got, say 3 kings. Boss wasn’t so keen on that one. I am running low on ideas, even after scouring the wikipedia poker term glossary. Anyone have any ideas?

Summer of 69 - sixes full of nines or vice versa
Hmmmmm not bad. Plus I like the dirty undertones! Might be a tough achievement to hit, unfortunately. We want this thing to be fairly achievable, if you know what I mean.
Well, you could always extend it to include two pair of sixes and nines. Just having a 6 and a 9 might be too easy, but I don’t know how hard-to-get you want to play.
Another thought which I like less, but hey, brainstorming: School’s Out For Summer - Four Aces (like a report card, geddit?).
I know it doesn’t necessarily need to be a song, but right now those look like the best opportunity for ‘clever’ achievements.
I was thinking of just having a 6 & a 9. The only thing making me hesitate on that is that a lot of people would get it from the board. Maybe I could make it so one of them would have to be a hole card, but then it starts getting a little tedious. School’s out for the Summer is cute, but 4 aces would be borderline impossible to get.
How about a winning hand with a 6 and a 9?
I want to say something like Flip-Flop that involves something happening on the flop, but I can’t think what that would be. Like all three cards being different suits or something.
Three cards of different suits on the flop is generally called “Rainbow”… but that’s not necessarily summer-themed, I guess…
A fishing theme could also work for JJ hole cards, referred to as “fishhooks”…
This has the wonderful advantage of also being extremely easy to implement =D
I like this idea. The thing that would bum me out is if I had, say, A9, and the board ends up AQJ62, and I don’t get the achievement because my winning hand is AAQJ9.
Floatin’ on the River award: gotten when you suck out and have the winning hand because of what the last card brings you.
Life’s a Beach: gotten when you lose because of the river card.
Royal Party: When your five card hand consists of only J, Q, or K.
Tracking when you win/lose because of the river card would require some extra handling since it is across game states (4th/5th street). I think I am going to go with Summer of '69 because it is A) most directly on theme & B) reasonably easy to implement. I am going to ignore my bummedness when I fail to get the achievement in the example I gave above. Thanks for your help everyone, off to set this up!

A running joke I like to use is if someone gets 3 Jacks, I tell them they are “One Jack Off”.
Heh. I use that line when somebody is missing a Jack from a straight. It gets a laugh, like, 20% of the time.
