Polish culture reference: the emperor says “We’ll destroy them … with fire and sword,” and the fiery title “Ogniem i Mieczem” appears on the screen. Ogniem i Mieczem or With Fire and Sword is the title of a great patriotic historical novel that every Pole knows. It was written in the late 19th century by Nobel prize winner Henryk Sienkiewicz, who is better known in the west for Quo Vadis.
