Political "World Cup", "Super Bowl", "Tournament" threads in Elections - pleas, just...STOP

Can’t sign onto this OP heartily enough. Major spam.

Ouch! I didn’t know this because I didn’t click on the Master Thread, buried among all the Poll … Poll … Poll … Poll.

 We’re happy to let you talk about whatever you want, Story. In your own subforum, or your own thread. We are NOT happy for our eyes to glaze over from 19 “World Cup” threads whenever we click to see what’s up in Elections forum. Capische?

I suppose we could get one of the programmers to come up with a Grease Monkey script to delete all the Polls from view, but that’s asking a little much, no? Especially since, goodness me, someone might actually open a real Poll thread in Elections.

Uh, Western civilization is already collapsing, Mr. Slate. Get used to it.

I didn’t even know these threads existed. How long has this been going on? Sounds annoying for sure.

Don’t forget March Madness.

Neither did I, until now. So thanks OP for giving me one more thing to be annoyed about:) I haven’t gone into the elections thread much because it’s too early. But what the hell, if people enjoy those threads, let them.

You mistake me; I don’t participate in those threads and have only opened one or two out of curiosity. It’s just that the scroll wheel on my mouse works just fine. YMMV, and obviously does.

Those opposed to these spam threads oppose it for the exact same reason that led to the creation of a Thread Games forum. Were you against that as well?

I supported that addition, but it was very much a matter of degree IMHO. These few threads are not pushing other content out and they’re only really cluttery for a day or so when they first drop. I mean I don’t really give a crap about preserving them either, but this is a nothing-burger of an annoyance if you ask me( not that anyone did ). IF they became a constant thing, completely dominating the forum, I might change my mind.

But for now I think some of y’all are just getting cranky in your old age and bitching at kids on your lawn. Have a margarita and relax :).

I wouldn’t have mentioned it if it hadn’t been done already. There are fricking “March Madness” threads - now we’ve got this crap.

Just call it a thread game, and fucking stop.

I’ve stopped checking Elections until those sink out of sight.
So, there’s no limit to how many threads someone can open at once?

(hmmm, maybe I can start fifty: “Who would win? Mr. Terrific vs Mr. Fantastic?”; “Who would win? Quicksilver vs Johnny Quick?”; “Who would win? Plastic Man vs Ralph Dibney?”; “Who would win? Atom vs Golden Age Atom vs Ant-Man vs Aunt May?”…)

Zactly! Let’s just all open up some fucking tournament threads - invent the topic:rolleyes:

Is this a casual bitch session, or are you actually proposing that Something Be Done?

I like the polls myself.

I’d actually say responses like this are more frustrating than the forum issue. I still don’t get why people think telling people to “relax” or “calm down,” especially when they aren’t even all that angry, is at all helpful. It’s just always dismissive.

They have a point: threads like this are pointless fluff. What little purpose they have could be handled in like one thread, or at most one poll per round.

Yeah, it’s currently a one-time thing. But, if people don’t complain about something, then one-time things often become more common. Complaining is how you let people know they aren’t all that welcome.

If you don’t say something when it’s small, then it gets out of hand, and you get a whole mess, like last time.

Yeah? Well great, take a screen shot and stare at them all day.

Hey, this is the Dope. Emotions are binary here. You’re either as calm and placid as a Buddhist monk, or you’re red-faced with rage and have steam shooting out your ears. There’s nothing in between.

That’s rich coming from quarry guy.

Yes. I’m afraid we all know which of the two groups I’m in.
