I open the elections forum and that’s like all I see. No offense the individual poster, but that concept is a ship that left port a while ago.
I agree. Politics isn’t a game. I find the presence of these threads trivializing the harm being done to our country.

Plus, it’s like borderline spammy. It’s forum spamming. I’m not saying it’s deliberate. Pleonast means well, but I just think that type of posting clutters up the forum and pushes all the other threads down, which isn’t good for the message board as a whole.
If you click “new posts” instead of going to each forum individually, it’s much less annoying.
If you’re on this board on a daily basis, there’s no need to go yo each forum because you already know what’s there. “New posts” filters out all the crap you’ve already seen. Including the political showdown threads.
The primary system isn’t set up like a tournament bracket and to speculate on what would happen if it was seems like a waste of time to me. I don’t read them, I don’t participate in them, I really don’t see why anyone would.

I agree with OP. If you must do such things, make it a single Thread Games thread. You won’t be able to use the Poll feature then, but that may be a plus.
OTOH, I still wish there were more enthusiasm for a Thread Games thread to make book on the 2020 contests via Karachi Auction.

I’m not even opposed to keeping ONE thread - ONE - like it in the elections forum, though you’re right: it probably is more like a thread game than a serious elections thread. But if one must post this in the elections forum, maybe just consolidate it into one thread minus the polls – please.
And the world cup version is even worse. Rather than having 8 threads in the first round, 4 in the second, 2 in the third and a final, for a total of 15 threads, this one has a round robin of with 3 rounds of 8 before you get to the elimination rounds. So a total of 31 threads! I really don’t see how this gets us any clearer of a picture than the basketball tournament version did.

First, I absolutely agree. If you must, just make one thread, make it multiple choice, label the groupings, and tell people to vote for only one in each grouping.
Second, this script serves me well for hiding spam threads like that.

ETA - the sarcasm came across better when I typed this in all caps, but I guess the board won’t let me do that so: the forgoing is sarcasm. Why should the people enjoying those conversations stop them because you don’t like them? Will you agree to stop discussing subjects they don’t enjoy?
The problem isn’t the topic; it’s the format. The same topic doesn’t need 10 or 15 fucking threads - that’s spamming.
Just wait until my Democratic Primary NBA Playoffs. 16 candidates in a best-of-7 bracket. Should be done sometime around the general election.
