If anybody in the Bush administration has any sense, Attorney General Gonzales will be out on his ass in the next week, if not sooner. So it’s a crapshoot.

Anyone wanna bet that the White House will only run prospective replacements past Senate Republicans? Its as if they are still in denial about last November’s election. My personal choice of an honorable Republican would be John Danforth.
Not a chance, after his comments and book last year on the undue influence of the Religious Right on the Republican party.
I’d bet Fred Thompson’s out too, as he’s not beholden to Bush for anything. Bush’ll try to push another crony in there first, and act as if he’s being personally wronged when the confirmation is denied.
Might the new AG take a serious look at prosecuting Alberto, et al, for the various crimes for which they might be indicted?
If yes, then my pick as his replacement would be Carol Lam, or David Iglesias, or Daniel Bogden, or Bud Cummins.
It could be worse. They could be considering Rumsfeld.
