I can juggle 3 balls. No tricks, nothing above 3, but I can do 3 for quite some time.
I’ve seen those. I want something heavy and small, but still padded/elastic so if I happen to catch one on each side of a finger I don’t have to go to the hospital with a broken finger. The BBs work pretty well except for the size and granularity of the finished product. Thus the search for smaller and denser beads of material.
The juggling balls that came with my “Learn How to Juggle!” book (Solstice present) were patent leather and filled with barley hulls. They were very light and very hard. It was difficult to juggle with them because they’d bounce out of my hand and couldn’t cope with mid-air collisions
Then I got some silicone stress balls from CompUSA (“impulse item” by the register in a fishbowl… $3 each, I think?), and was doing the standard 3-ball cascade within an hour. I’ve replaced them a couple times in the past few years. Definitely my favorite thing.
I can:
- Juggle 3 balls in a variety of intermediate tricks
- Juggle 4 balls briefly
- Hi Opal! Where is your post on this subject? (She’s a juggle fiend)
- Do Devil sticks (the real ones, not the fluffy-end ones)
I am now focusing my silly abilities towards balloon animals. My daughter loves them more than watching me throw balls in the air.

A couple of years ago, I once juggled three cubes for five seconds. I’ve never come close since.
Maybe I should get the Klutz juggling book? How good is it?
I thought the Klutz book was very good, and a bit humorous too. It is the resource that helped me learn to juggle at first, then I moved onto Dave Finnigan’s, “The Complete Juggler” to expand my skills. Alas, it’s no longer in print now, though I’ve heard he has a different book out now that is very good.
That sounds really good. Thanks!
3 balls, basic tricks, like over the top, up and down, etc.
Learned by reading a basic book and standing facing a wall.
