Poll for gun owners

Due to circumstances that are irrelevant here, you must divest yourself of all of your guns. Well, almost all. You are allowed to keep one shotgun, one revolver, one semiauto, one rimfire rifle, and one centerfire rifle. Of the weapons you currently own, which do you keep, and why?

For myself:

Shotgun - Mossberg 500 - Multiple barrels/chokes makes this the most versitile gun I own.

Revolver - S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman - Fires .38 and .357 as needed, from a rock-solid platform.

Semiauto - Tough choice here. I love my AutoMag and my Hardballer, but I think in the end my Hi Power would be my choice.

Rimfire - Ruger 10-22 - Is there really any other choice? This would also win my “Get rid of all your guns but one” poll.

Centerfire - M1 Garand - I’d miss all my Mausers, but the M1 is my baby. The single greatest battle implement ever created.

Well, right now I only have three guns, a Yugo SKS with no grenade launcher and the bayonet lug ground off, a Mosin 91/30, and a Savage 64 .22 plinker. Come August I’ll have two more when my uncle comes down here to visit and gives me an M1 Garand and a 12-gauge pump shotgun (can’t remember what kind, I think Remington.) Sometime in the next two weeks I get my Curio and Relic license, and then at the end of the month I get $2,000 for some freelance writing work which I will use to expand the collection. I’m going to do one of two things:

  1. Blow it all on a National Match M1A

or

  1. Get another Mosin Nagant, a Swiss K31, an Enfield, an AK-47/AKM/WASR/whatever and a Mauser K98 (preferably a non-German one because I don’t particularly like the idea of owning a gun with Nazi markings.) And lots of ammo.

As to which of these guns I would keep: I’d have to go with the Garand, because it’ll be an heirloom.

This is easy. I keep my .22 revolver & my .22 rifle. Apparently, I have to give up my Daisy BB gun. I guess I’m ok with that; I can’t really see overthrowing the government with it anyway.

I’ve got nothing but handguns, so I’ll go with my Ruger SP101 .357 magnum 2 1/4" stainless and my Sig Sauer P239 in 357SIG. My Glock 27 (.40 S&W), which is my first gun, unfortunately must go, and the piece I just got, my Springfield Armory XD9, also goes because the caliber is too small in comparison. I’m a big fan of the 357SIG round, too bad it costs so much.

If I must get a longarm, I’ll go with a Remington 870. Sure, I have to be close, but I’ll take a tradeoff in range for overall utility over the .30-06 I want to get.

Well, if it makes you feel better, IIRC, many of the rifles used by the Germans in WWII ended up going to Israel and were used in the first few wars they fought before they began aquiring more modern firearms to counter the Russian assault rifles used by the various Arab nations they fought (IIRC, the Galil rifle was inspired by the Kalishnikov rifles encountered on the battlefield)

Well, just as well. You’ll put your eye out with that thing.

I don’t own any guns (ironically because, being in the military, I can’t have one in my dorm), but if I could have one gun from someone else’s excess, I’d try and get a Colt M1911. I got to shoot one over Christmas when I was on leave, and it was very nice, liked it a lot compared to the other guns I’ve fired.

Is that a recent change? When I was in the Navy, you could own firearms but could not keep them in government housing, be it barracks, dorms, or married quarters. Instead, they were kept in an armory and had to be signed out and back in.

I’ve only got one, so I’ll keep my .38 Taurus revolver.

This is a pretty easy answer fro me. My gun collection is not that large, but I am very satisfied with the types:

Shotgun, Remington 870 wingmaster 12g, 30 in barrel, full choke
Revolver: Smith and Wesson K frame model 19 .357
Semi auto: Vintage Belgium Browning HiPower 9mm
Rimfire: Ruger 10/22
Centerfire: I do not own a centerfire rifle

One of each? That’s better than the single gun I own now. :stuck_out_tongue:

semi: I’ll keep my Beretta 92 .40 cal

revolver: what the heck; just for fun I’ll get the biggest penis-compensator on the market, the Smith & Wesson 500.

shotgun: can’t say I know enough about makes to choose a favorite. Any 12-gauge pump action will do, although I’d lean towards an 18-inch barrel pistol grip home defender.

centerfire rifle: I wish I had the skill to effectively use a long-range high powered rifle, but sadly I simply do not. If assault rifles count, I’d get a semi-automatic version of the AK-47.

rimfire: no idea at all.

Shotgun -I only own one, 16G single shot. I guess I’d keep it.

Revolver - I only own one, .22LR single action.

Semiauto - 9MM Beretta 92F. Accurate enough and utterly reliable. Holds 15+1 rounds.

Rimfire - Tough call. I’ve got a 10-22 but I think I might have to go with my Marlin 39A lever action. More accurate and it was my Dad’s so it’s got sentimental value.

Centerfire - Ruger .223 Ranch.

I have a handgun, but I don’t even know what it is. I think it’s a .25 caliber. Is there such a thing? It was something my first husband bought, from a pawn shop in Seattle. He never shot it, and I don’t know why he bought it.

I shot it once, target practice, out in the country. It was loud!

One shotgun: another vote for the Mossberg 500. Hate to lose my Browning over-and-under, but the ability to swap chokes and barrels with the Mossberg carries the day.

One revolver: Ruger GP 100. Able to keep shooting loads of .38 +P wadcutter at the range and load up with .357 Mag for home defense

One semiauto: Makarov .380. Good for concealed carry if ever the need arises.

One rimfire rifle: don’t own any.

One centerfire rifle. Ruger #1 in 7mm. In case I’m ever insulted by a backfin whale.

Are there any markings on it, like a serial number or the name of a manufacturer? If you could, post a photograph. One of us will surely be able to tell you what it is.

If it’s a .25 caliber I’d bet dollars to doughnuts that it’s a Ring of Fire weapon, probably Raven.

EDIT: Robin knows jack about guns. This is Airman, I forgot to log her out.

Shotgun is easy, Winchester 1300 Defender because that’s the only one I own (except for the three .410’s, but I have no idea what to do with those things)

Semi handgun - Colt 1991A1. I could give up my Commander since I’ve carried the full-sized before, and the Government Model is really much more fun to shoot than the Commander (amazing what a difference 3/4" makes)

Rimfire rifle, probably the Winchester 9422. It’s a lot of fun to shoot, looks good, and is rapidly increasing in value since Winchester quit making them. Hey, if I’m only allowed one that doesn’t mean that my sons can’t keep theirs, right? Youngest has a 10/22 and oldest has a 552. Yeah, that’d work fine.

And that’s where it falls apart. I love my Bisley Vaquero but there’s no way I can give up the Colt Frontier Scout my grandfather got for me when I was born.

It gets even harder from there, one centerfire rifle? How about one semi, one bolt, and one single shot? I can’t hunt with an AR15, I can’t plink with a Ruger No1 in .300 Win Mag (both the price of ammo and the bruising), I can’t benchrest either of them but I also am getting too old to lug my Remington 700 Varmint around the Rockies. Then again, Granddad’s mdl 94 .30-30 is a priceless family heirloom.
There’s only 2 or 3 rifles that I could live without, a Carcano that I’ve never even fired and maybe the '03 Springfield is redundant.

Missed the edit window.
Beretta makes (or made) a .25. Should have their distinctive logo on it if that’s what it is. If Airman Doors is right and it’s a Raven/Davis/etc. I seriously would recommend not relying on it. For anything. Unless you have no other choice - even a Raven is better than nothing, but HiPoint would be even better.

Auntie Pam’s gun

Yep, it’s a Raven, .25 caliber. It’s really heavy for something so small.

Is this considered a good gun? I traded for it. I had a dinky little purse gun, and traded with someone at work for this one. It shoots straight. I managed to hit the beer can from about 30 feet.

It’s ok if you are expecting to get attacked by a not-very-large mouse. Against a human bent of harm it’s a joke. I’d consider a .380 to be barely marginal for a purse gun. A 9mm or better is ideal.

Try this. Or this. Or this.

Not fair! I have a matched pair of .45LC Ruger Vaqueros!

:Mumble, Grumble…:

Scatter Gun: My Mossberg 500 “Sarah” (short for “Sarah Brady’s Nightmare”). I’ve installed a pistol-grip, folding stock, side-saddle shell holder, tactical sling, laser pointer and tactical light. Even other shooters look at me strange when I uncase her at the range.

Revolver: I would keep one of my Ruger Vaqueros. The other would mysteriously be “stolen.”

Semiauto: Colt Gold Cup National Match .45 ACP.

Centerfire: Winchester Model 70 Classic “Laredo” LRH in 7mm Rem. Mag.

What silenus said.

But, and I’ve said this before, the best gun to have is the one you are comfortable with. Shot placement is more important than caliber (and I’m a .45 man, so it’s hard for me to say such things). If you don’t practice with a .357, the .25 is going to be more deadly in your hands (providing you do practice with it). I’d really not recommend anything smaller than .380 either, but I have carried a .32 made by Davis which is about the same as a Raven .25.

It’s better than no gun, and if you’re good with it it’s far better than something huge that hurts your hand to shoot.

I only own one. S&W model 15 with walnut grips. It was the weapon I carried as a deputy sheriff in the mid 1970s. It was worked on by a friend of mine who was a master gunsmith, and has a 1.5 pound pull on single action and about a 3.5 pound pull on double, smooth as glass.

The first rounds I ever fired from it were on the qualifying course during the police academy. I shot 99.6 with it and have loved that weapon since.
