Poll: Have you had a homosexual experience?

Uh…

  1. no (maybe fantisied about it)
  2. male
  3. pretty straight
  1. Yes*
  2. Male
  3. Gay

How could you not? When women get horny, they totally don’t respect personal boundaries.

Yeah. God, save us from those she-devils.

In case you want to know: my answers - yes, male, straight-ish.

Is Friday night your humor-free night or what?

  1. Do you count kissing? If so, yes, between ages 6 and 8, on a handful of occasions.
1b) For the person who brought up dreams, no.
  2. Male
  3. Gay
  1. Yes, once. A while ago, though, and it depends on what you define as an “experience.” But it was sexual, and with another boy.
1b. Occassionally dreamed about it after.
  2. Male.
  3. Straight.

1.0 There was this one time at camp—

2.0 Male

3.0 Straight

I’d like a definition as to what constitutes homosexual activity.

If you’re not thinking “wow, I’m gay!” then it wasn’t homosexual activity. It was just, you know, messing around.

That’s simple enough–I thought it would be more tedious. Thanks.

Yes
Male
Straight (I was a sailor, any port in a storm)

  1. Beyond dancing to the Pet Shop Boys, no.
  2. Male
  3. Straight

I gave it some consideration in college, but came to the conclusion that for me, women make me horny, not men.

It’s kinda like this:

Guy 1: "I’ve gotta dick!
Guy 2: “I’ve gotta dick too!”

Guy 1: “Here’s my dick! Wanna grab it?”
Guy 2: “Sure! Here’s my dick, wanna grab it?”

Sorry guys, but that doesn’t get you the Gay Card. It just means you have dicks.

What?!

So having sexual contact with a member of the same sex is not actually homosexual activity unless you’re thinking “wow, I’m gay?” So much for the whole “spectrum” of sexuality, in that case. No offense but this is a bad definition. The OP wants to know if people have had sexual experiences with members of their own gender.

On second thought maybe I’m being whooshed. Am I?

  1. Yes, I’ve engaged in a fair number of heterosexual acts (which is what the OP asked for in the case of gay respondents).

  2. Male.

  3. Gay.

It’s true that here is much recent doubt about the 1 in 10 figure, the modern estimate puts it at more than 1 in 20 and certainly not as low as 1 in 50! Yet in my experience and that of my gay friends, 1 in 10 seems very much right, whether or not we’re living in the gay part of town. I’ve had a lot of self-defined “straight” partners who would most emphatically swear before and after that they had never had a homosexual experience, just like an awful lot of the male posters here :dubious:

Furthermore, sex researchers have long held that the large majority of adolescent boys engage in one or more homosexual acts, even if it is just a minor one. Every truly straight male I have ever been able to raise the subject with has admitted that this is true for them. Therefore, I just don’t believe all the “no, male, straight” answers we’re getting here, or at least I don’t believe we’re seeing anything close to a representative sample. I can’t help but believe we’re seeing a lot of macho denial.

Thanks for noticing this.

I could see how you might be right if people were stopped on the street and asked if they had had homosexual experiences. Then, men might have a lot of macho denial.

But, why would someone on this board, when they have not been specifically asked themselves, decide to post their “macho denial”? Basically, why would someone volunteer to give false information?

If one is uncomfortable about their homosexual experiences, why not just not post?

I hope you were kidding, but LouisB apparently took you seriously! That’s about the worst possible “definition” of a homosexual act that I can think of! By that definition, even if you sucked/fucked or were sucked/fucked by a thousand other men, as long as you didn’t think you were gay, it wasn’t gay sex! Are you shitting us?
Here’s how I think it should be “defined”:

  1. Were you with another person of the same sex?

  2. Were both of your pants down or off, or did you or the other person reach into the other’s pants?

  3. Did it feel sexually “naughty”?

If all three, then you engaged in homosexual activity!

I predict that this thread will degenerate into a debate and be closed if it continues on this tack. In the spirit of the original intention,

  1. No
  2. Male
  3. Straight

I will add that I posess a trait which I have never known any other straight men to have, outside of one of my friends, which is a great interest in other men’s looks. I can spend hours talking about the various things that make a man handsome, and admiring the features of men that I find to be handsome. This is one of the reasons that I object to the casting of Daniel Craig as James Bond: I do not think he is handsome enough.

I never meet many other males that have this ability to discuss their fellow men this way. For me, it’s the same as admiring an impressive car or motorcycle. Certain things in life just look good. It doesn’t make you gay to appreciate them.

yes
female
straight (except when drunk!)

Perhaps because this is an opportunity to step up to the plate and proclaim to all the Straight Dope world: I AM STRAIGHT, DAMMIT! I’m totally into the babes! Make no mistake, I’m one tough honcho, so don’t go all faggoty on me!

I recall another thread that was not a poll in which lots and lots of guys came out of the woodwork to demand unequivocally that they had never, EVER had even the most innocuous hint of a gay thought or act in their entire lives. Why did these men volunteer (as you put it) to post so emphatically about something they were not even asked about? Why go to the trouble to post at all in that case?

Frankly, I dunno. It just seems to me to go against the probabilities based on the widely held view that adolescent homosexual experiences are quite common. On the other hand, I haven’t totalled the responses either, so I may well be entirely off base.
