I noticed recently that I don’t get into bed in the way I have seen others do, and in the way it is depicted in movies and TV. The funny thing is, if you asked me how I did it, I would have said I did it the standard way, but I don’t. So when you answer this, you might want to actually do it, rather than just guess. And take a nap while you are there. You look tired.
Seriously, 100 characters just isn’t enough.
Sit Down Way: Sit on the edge of the bed, then swing legs up and torso down, while swiveling a bit to be in correct position.
The Roll: Stand facing bed, lift leg closest to the foot of the bed, place knee on bed, and roll into bed.
I voted other freaky way, but at the request of my wife I don’t do it anymore. I used to go to the end of the bed, pull the covers to one side, leap into the air, twist and land on my back in the right position. Never hit her, but she’s a worrier.
How do you get under the covers this way?
I always have the head of the bed farthest from the door and since lightswitches are usually right next to the door, I turn the light off and simply clamber over the foot of the bed to the pillow whereupon I collapse on top of the blankets for a moment and then shift myself to the side and get under the covers.
The roll. Well modified roll. The dog gets up and curls up on the pillow closest to the light switch. I hit the lights and do the roll over the dog.
My bed (mattress & box spring) sits directly on the floor, so for me, the “roll” comes closest to describing how I get in. Unless I’m doing something en route to lying down like taking off my socks or something, in which case, I’ll sit on the edge of the bed, somewhat uncomfortable though that may be.
I voted “roll.”
I voted for “some other freaky way.” I just kinda do a face-plant into the bed, my head going right onto the pillow.
I pull up the covers at the foot of the bed, and crawl in head first.
Ok, I lied, I do the sit down way. Bo-ring.
You pull the covers back first, then roll into the bed and pull the covers over yourself.
I guess mine is sort of the roll. I kind of do a controlled fall onto the bed and then shift myself fully onto it.
Our bed’s too high for me to sit on; I kind of have to clamber in.
I guess that’s a ‘roll’.
Walking toward my side of the bed from the bathroom, lift inside leg & bend at knee, sit on butt/side of leg, pull other leg up, pull covers over me. Freaky? Definitely.
Not so freaky, Corkboard. You sound like a roller to me.
How is that different from the Sit method, other than lifting one leg at a time instead of both at once?
I voted for “Sit”, but I also lift up one leg at a time.
(I think this thread needs some videos.)
Me too. If I sit on it, my feet are about a foot off the ground. I feel like a 5’9" little kid. I kind of do a lazy high jump.
hogarth, I think the biggest difference to me is whether you are facing the bed or have your back to it. Back to it and lower butt? Sit method. Face bed and place knee on bed, then roll? Roll method.
Face end of bed, lift left leg up and onto bed, roll slightly to center but stop and bring right leg into bed while turning roll into a back slide and scootching up a bit and finally rolling all the way to the right.
Oh and I don’t use covers at all.
I turn back the covers, then sit. If I’m going to watch TV, I scooch high on the pillows. If it’s sleepy time, I usually start out on my left side.
When we slept aboard our boat, we climbed in at the foot of the V-berth and crawled forward to the pillows. Getting out was more of a hassle.
It’s not. I was just being descriptive.
