Poll: How often do you go to church?

Never. We can’t find an unprogrammed Quaker service close to our home.

I play guitar and sing at two services every Sunday, and rehearse the music for those services every Wednesday.

I don’t go to Church, but I visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC last year.

I also visit the Cathedral of Baseball* on a regular basis.

I have been to a few synagogues for Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs and the occasional church for a funeral.

I go to some environmental meetings at the local Unitarian Church.

Every Sunday fall, winter , and spring, but only because they pay me (choir; we have summers off).

Never by my own volition. I’ll go for a wedding, funeral or christening though. Last one of those held in a church was my beautiful nephew, but that was nearly 7 years ago.

Only for a wedding. Or a funeral. same thing?
I went into St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland. I didn’t realize it still offered services until just now, though.

Like Cunctator: every Sunday (or Saturday vigil Mass, which meets the Sunday obligation) and Holy Day of Obligation.

I make an effort to observe the actual holy days, even though in the U.S., we have pared down the orginal list somewhat by transferring the observance of many of these to the nearest Sunday.

But there are ten of 'em, dang it, and I try to make it to Mass on each of these days:

[li]Christmas[/li][li]Solemnity of Mary[/li][li]The Epiphany[/li][li]The Feast of St Joseph[/li][li]The Ascension[/li][li]Corpus Christi[/li][li]The Feast of SS Peter and Paul[/li][li]The Assumption[/li][li]All Saints[/li][li]The Immaculate Conception[/li][/ul]

Weekly. I can count on one hand the number of Sundays I’ve missed in the past 10 yrs. I’m a cafeteria type Catholic, and I skip holy days of obligation.

I might go to mass three times a year – Easter, Christmas, and one other random occasion. My favorite part of it? “The mass is ended, go in peace.”

Hard to tell. I took a friend’s wife to midnight mass at Christmas 33 years ago and haven’t been since. So somewhere less than 3 times per century.

I will update this next time I go or if I suddenly become a church regular.

Well, last time I went was the last week of December, 1999, when my dad died.

There are probably posts around the SDMB that explain this, but I haven’t seen those but have seen enough of your comments about religion, so excuse me for asking- why?

As for me, every Sunday morning at least. I’ve used to go Sun nights & Wed nights, but a friend w/ special needs makes a lot of demands on my time & between her & work, I need the rest. Assembly of God.

1.7 times per week.

Most Sundays, as many Holy Days of Obligation that I can make. I used to go to daily Mass a couple times a week, but I’ve moved, and the new parish has two daily masses, both in the morning (there’s a Catholic school that goes in the mornings). I asked about possibly having some in the evenings, when working people could make it, but that didn’t go over very well. I miss the peace and simplicity of daily Mass. Also (this may sound horrible), but both priests at my parish are Indian and have strong accents. Between the accents and being somewhat hard of hearing, I have a very hard time following the homilies. I’d go to another parish, but the nearest is at least 25-30 miles away.

StG

One to three times a week*. Always on Sunday mornings, and on Sunday evenings and Wednesday evenings, if there is a traditional service or Bible study available.

I’m curious about this and hope you don’t mind my asking. Does unprogrammed mean one without a particular order and a message by a speaker?

  • Except for a period last year when I went on strike.

Weekly, on Sunday with a couple of other occassional activities on other days. I usually only miss when I’m sick or one of my kids is (because of our positions in the church, it is far easier for me to stay home with sick kids than my wife, so cleaning up vomit is always my job). I also try to attend the Temple about once a month, but in reality I am only able to go every other month or so. Mormon.

Well, back home it was about 3-4 times a month.

But up at college, I’ve made it all of once. :frowning: Stupid homework and other time users. I need to do a better job of getting to the “college aimed” service, because it comes with food and fellowship-y stuff too.

Never started.

Roman Catholic, so every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation (although I confess I have had days like Ascension Thursday completely slip my mind until it’s too late). And for funerals and weddings, but those are very rare.

ETA: I have also missed for being really sick, but that’s extremely rare as well.

Pretty much. The traditional Quaker service (unprogrammed) involves the congregation sitting quietly, each person listening for the voice of God. A person may speak if s/he feels so moved, but generally it is meditative. There is usually someone who sort of starts and ends the whole thing, with an eye on the time. It just seems very worshipful to us. The modern (programmed) services are pretty much just like any Baptist church, with singing and a sermon and whatnot. I just don’t care for that.
