Poll: Odd Del Valley Sky at Noon 5/20!?!

I was hoping to find some SDopers especially in the southern portion of the Delaware Valley who might have noticed a pattern of horizonntal rainbow colors “painting” the cirrus clouds? This phenomena is known as the “circumhorizon arc”, a rare sight occuring under hard-to-achieve conditions. It was accompanied by a more common, 22 degree halo around the sun flanked by two sundogs.

Did anyone else catch a glimpse of this vivid, eye-catching sight? If so, you weren’t imaging things… Please share your observations with me. Specifically, did anyone notice more than two sundogs in the sky (for up to 7 are possible)???

I don’t live in the same area but I did see something similiar to what you describe, here in SC about 3 months ago. There were two sundogs in the same part of the sky also. It was an amazing sight!

The really odd thing is that there is a sundog visible here in my part of the state on an almost daily basis. I’ve seen it for years. It is visible not only here but also 50 miles away at my parents’ house.

Cool, Greywolf! Keep watching the skies when those cirrus clouds (circus clowns?) roll in… I guess everyone else just takes the shows in the daytime sky for granted! - Jinx
