If you were offered free training(trade school, college etc.), which profession would you like to try? Free room and board would be included, of course.
Woodworking/carpentry
or prostitution
Music composition. Music has been the one constant joy of my life, but always in the background, so to speak.
I think I’d like to get into Hospitality Management. I dabble in it via science fiction and gaming conventions, and I get a rush every time an event is successful.
Teaching.
Politics
I’d like to become a Bush Pilot in somewhere like Africa or the Outback of Australia.
Medicine. I have to remind myself that there were good reasons I chose not to become a doctor, but sometimes it still sounds like fun. But there were good reasons, and I have a great life. I don’t think I’d take a reboot if offered.
I’d go to culinary school. It’s a solid honest living and I love to cook. Maybe I’m just watching too much food network lately.

Only one? JO! (1)
My first loves were Draftsmanship, Translation and Interpretation, and Restoration (specializing on the paint on buildings and statues).
Translation, I’ve done and gotten paid for; at some point I want to do a 1-year Masters’ on it so I can have that career available if I ever need to have jobs I can do from home.
Draftsmanship seems to involve too many construction folks yelling at each other and deciding it’s your fault that the architect/head engineer is a moron.
So I’ll take a double major in Architecture and Arts, please
(1): Ethruscan god of children who want more candy.
Medieval history, specifically the Crusades.
That’s what I’m gonna spend my days on when I become independently wealthy (or, when I retire in a 100 years).
Either cellular biology or botany. Both plants and cells are endlessly fascinating to me.
Barring that, neuropsychology. I’ve always kind of wanted to be a scientist.
I’d want to be one of those guys working on the Large Hadron Collider, or something like that. Some high-level science stuff, finding out the answers to the questions about the universe.
Astronomy. I’d love to do something for NASA.
Graphic design, or photography. Or landscape architect. Or metalsmithing. Something with my hands.
Culinary school, for sure.
I know I don’t have the temperament to become a chef (nor do I like the insane hours required in the restaurant biz), but I enjoy cooking and baking so much that I’d happily spend a few years learning everything there is to know as long as someone else was footing the bill. Plus there’s always the possibility that along the way, I might discover a different career that would still let me play with food all day, but with less stress and less craptacular hours.
In my early 20’s, I made an unsuccessful attempt to become a firefighter. I didn’t have the right training and didn’t really know how to go about getting it. I also made a number of bad decisions that ended up getting me farther away from my goal instead of closer to it. I wish I’d had my shit together enough to make that work. If I could hit the great CTL-ALT-DEL of life, I’d go back and do that right.
Get a Master’s in Public Policy or go to law school, more than likely. I’d love to be a doctor, but my math skills just are not up to par. I’d never make it through calculus.
Psychiatry. Of course, if you ask again in 5 minutes it will be something else.
This is why I am, at nearly 50 years old, working in a field that makes me want to shoot myself while I’m on fire so my body is completely destroyed and there is no chance that someone could resurrect me and make me work in it again.
