Poll: The smell of freshly cut grass

I like it. For a few minutes. Then, I start to sneeze like crazy.

But, it’s still a nice smell.

As an aside, I once hypothesized that the appeal of fresh cut grass came from people who played sports (or as a kid had a well tended lawn in the back yard) and that people who didn’t like the smell didn’t have those things. I did a test of about ten people and was pretty much right on. Wonder if it’s the case.

It’s really nice.

I have always loved it and still do. There is just something about it that makes the world seem fresh and new. It is the smell of spring.

Same here. It’s one of the scents that makes me feel really happy and full of energy, too.

Ferret Herder, was this your soap?

Hmm, now I’m wondering if I should buy some of that too.

Same here. I like it.

No, it was a commercial, small brand, packaged in plastic wrapping, cube-cut shape, translucent to transparent. Smelled like spring/summer and I wished for it in the middle of a Minnesota winter.

I would almost hope for a scratch-n-sniff web browser plug-in, but… yeah, that’s kind of a scary thought. Thanks for the link though, that’s a good possibility if it’s actually the smell I’m thinking about.

Hate it, because the smell of freshly cut grass means I’m about to have some serious allergy issues.

Love it. Reminds me of spring as a kid and the start of baseball season…

I hate it. It smells metallic and just… blech. I hate the smell of cooked greens too. I think it’s the chlorophyll.

I just ordered the soap. Had to.

Although I think I better not take it with me to the gym, just in case its aroma has the same arousing effect.

It’s alright, as long as it’s someone else doing the cutting.

The smell referred to is Coumarin. It (and its analogues) has been used in perfumes to create that fresh smell.

Si

I’m really happy to know that I’m not the only one who feels that way. I’ve always felt a little guilty about liking the smell of grass cut with a gas mower, as if it is not politically correct or something.

You’re happy now. Just wait until I send Al Gore over there!

For me, it’s not so much that I like the smell, inasmuch as it brings me back to hot summer mornings mowing the lawn. Especially if I can smell a little gasoline or exhaust along with the grass.

I hate the smell. Mostly because I know that once I smell that, then soon it’ll be my turn to cut my own lawn. And there’s few jobs I hate more than that.

Don’t care for it.

ACK! Oh wait…will it be bearded, plaid-shirted, woodsy Al, or Awkwardly-Dancing-With-Tipper Al or Nobel Prize Al?

Whichever one, tell him to bring his electric mower and a really, really long extension cord.

I don’t like it. This might stem from my childhood allergies to it. I really like the smell of a lawnmower engine, though.
