It sounds very logical to have only one kind of socks so you never have to worry about finding a mate. I believe my wife would describe this as achieving sock zen. Unfortunately, it’s never happened yet. Maybe I should throw out all my socks and just go buy 20 pairs of the same kind.
All of my socks are charcoal gray. That is because there ia a black hole in my washing machine…very often, socks disappear and never turn up! So gray is best-that way, they ALL match! :smack:
Also learned too late in life, I’m phasing out all my non black ones except for the white footcovers (?) that I wear with my walkers. Now I even will purposely wear a blue sock and a brown sock from the “mateless” drawer (unless wearing shorts).
I still have some bright red ones (on now, but only when at home or at Christmas.)
Some style cops used to say only cops wore white socks and I did notice that for a while. Mostly true.
But wearing black socks with loafers or with shorts garners pejorative barbs in parts of the the Southland that “You must be a Yankee”.
But briefly, I have a hint for guys who wear briefs with the vertical fly (and their gals). Try the type that have a horizontal fly, called “Kangaroo” or “pouch” style. Much easier and comfortable to use, in all conditions.
I’m the odd one out here. I think I only own two pairs of white socks, left over from when I went to a school with a uniform policy. All the other ones are colored, or striped, or have cats or lamps or something on them. Right now, they’ve got parrots on them. I don’t have a problem with losing socks because we put all our socks in a mesh bag before washing, which seems to stop the black hole effect.
60% black cotton, 40% knee-high black and white or black and purple or something striped. I like knee-highs, especially in winter. Couple of pairs of fishnet tights, but I really prefer not to wear tights or pantyhose. Thigh-highs or knee-highs are the way to go!
Currently, I am wearing dark gray socks with evil kitties on them. Emily brand.
Blue wool socks with white toes and heels
closely followed by black wool socks
then green wool socks
then white socks
then my single pair of brown socks
Up until recently, all I owned were ankle length, white hanse socks. Then I moved into the dorms and got corrupted by friends with capricious socks, you know ones with maniacal elves or flowers or the Taj Mahl on them. So I have some of those now. Our tagline is, a day with capricious socks is a good day. And I hold that to be true. The day I got my biggest grant, I was wearing blue socks with flowers on them. The day I took my GREs and did well, blackwith silver snowflakes.
I find it strange that I’ll be the first person to cop to a majority navy blue sock drawer.
Black socks have a strong presence, as well. It’s about 60% navy blue socks, 30% black, and a few khaki, burgundy, and forest green socks rounding out the collection. I generally match socks with my pants – except that khaki pants can match with not only khaki socks, but also any of the other sock colors above(provided there’s a match elsewhere in the outfit, normally in the shirt or sweater).
Hm. A quick count reveals about 50% ankle-cut or no-show socks, all white.
The other half is all pretty/cute patterned girlie socks, mostly mid-calf length. Plus, one pair of plain black socks, and one pair of plain dark blue socks.
I am required to wear black socks with my uniform at work, so that’s pretty much all I own - black socks and black socks, and a few pairs of novelty socks with penguins or ducks on them.
