Poll: What Standard Federal Region do you live in?

From here.

  • Region I (Maine-ish)
  • Region II (New Yorkish and PR (wtf?) )
  • Region III (Massaginia)
  • Region IV (southeast)
  • Region V (great lakes)
  • Region VI (greater Texas)
  • Region VII (central central)
  • Region VIII (greater Wyoming)
  • Region IX (southwest and HI and other territories)
  • Region X (great north-wet and AK)

I have to say, the Discourse colors for that pie aren’t varied enough. I see a 10-section variation from white to midnight blue. Can I get some contrast please, add red, orange, vermilion, yellow, fuschia in between all these green/blue colors?

How about none of the above? I vote Region II, but I don’t know the purpose of the pole, as it’s centered on those who live in the U.S.

Well it is for people in the US and territories. I should have made that clear in the thread title, apologies.

Edit: are you saying you vote in region II but live overseas/outside the poll’s regions?

S/he lives in Switzerland - you can click on their name and see their location. Same for any poster, if they’ve set it up in their settings.
Were I to vote, I’d select Region IV, as that’s my voting location, but I actually live in Australia.

I didn’t know the new board allowed user locations, and I sorely missed that from the old board. Thanks, I’ll set mine up.

Well, “where do you live” in the OP seems pretty clear: you and Die_Capacitrix don’t live in those regions. Again, sorry my thread title wasn’t clearer.

I’ll note my region III should have been named “Pennsylginia” (Virvania?)

For red you pay extra. The Dope can’t afford it. The West is any color so long as it’s black.

I agree. One of my pet peeves, especially on tv.

Nitpick but it would be more accurate to call Region I New England, rather than “Maine-ish”.

Yeah, as someone with Deuteranopia, that chart is pretty much useless to me.

Edit: I realize now that I can zoom in and tap on each wedge to show me what it represents. So that helps.

Also the pie pieces for each region proceed clockwise in poll order around the pie: Region I is just after “midnight”, followed by Region II clockwise etc.

Beat me to it. I’ll admit that this part of the country was a mishmash in my mind before I moved here a couple of decades ago, and I remember fruitlessly looking for “New England” on a map in second grade, but considering the fact that Region I includes all six New England states, it only makes sense to refer to this region as New England.

“Maine-ish” is just bizarre. I like Maine a lot, frequently going there for recreation (mostly canoeing trips and ski trips), but Maine is more of the hinterland of New England than anything else. It would be like calling Region VI “Greater Arkansas.”

Region 1

And I hate the pie charts for a different reason - I want to know the percentages, not the absolute numbers of votes.

I’m quite surprised how unrepresented the US southeast is. 4 in 61 at the moment. There are a great number of people in that region.

Users with a mouse can also mouse-over each wedge to see a caption showing what it is.

Haven’t we run most of them off these boards?

67 million people live in region IV. 20% of the US. I doubt we’ve intimidated every one of them.

Doesn’t matter how many of them there are who’ve never heard of the Dope. Matters how many were on the Dope and aren’t here any longer.

Like region VIII “Greater Wyoming” literally the least populous state in the region.
