Never. My partner and I always travel to see family so why decorate when we won’t be here anyway?
I voted “never” because since I got divorced, I haven’t put up a tree. It’s been six years now. But I like Christmas trees . . . maybe this year I’ll get one (real or fake, don’t much care) and put it up as sort of a sign of moving on.
I always do it the weekend after Thanksgiving, so about three weeks out. But this year, with buying the house, and the wedding coming up, I’m not sure how long it’ll be up or if we’ll even do it.
Usually on 3rd Sunday of Advent, namely the Sunday falling between 11 and 17 December.
Decorations and lights go up the weekend of Thanksgiving. First Saturday of December, we go out, slay a tree, bring it back, and decorate it. We don’t start plugging in the lights until the tree goes up. Everything comes down soon after New Years Day.
Actually I put it up whenever Ms Hook says we’re going to. If it wasn’t for her there wouldn’t be a tree at Case de Hook.
I usually put ours up the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It generally comes down in the first week of January, because by then we’re utterly sick of looking at it. I’ve noticed that we turn the lights on and bask in the tree-glow a lot for the first couple weeks, but then we’re pretty uninterested by the time Christmas rolls around. Our condo is pretty small and our tree regular-sized, so it’s actually doing nothing but cluttering up our house after Christmas Eve or so.
I don’t have a tree but my wreath, which I leave up for the rest of the winter because it’s so pretty in the snow and stuff, goes up on my door on Thanksgiving. It’s more a winter decoration than one specific to any holiday. Right now I have a fall one out there.
In my case there’s no tree (foreign inventions, don’tchanow), but Christmas decorations go up between December 3rd and December 8th, taking advantage of the holidays: December 3, 6 and 8 are holidays in Navarra. Pamplona (our capital) has another one on November 29; the rest of Spain doesn’t get the 3rd off.
I love putting up a tree and decorating but it is only me and there seems no sense. Also, I would likely keep it up way too long. Too much work just for me.
Usually the first week of December although I’m not sure I’ll do one at all this year. I got new kittens in March and they’re still very kittenish so I’m afraid it would be torn apart and knocked over every time I turn around.
Likewise.
When I lived alone, I had a tabletop-sized tree that I would put up after Thanksgiving and usually forget about until March or so.
Day after Thanksgiving it goes up…the first time. Depending on kids, dogs and cats, it may be put up several more times. Gets taken down for good on Jan. 1 or 2, depending on how busy we are.
When I was a kid, we always decorated around the third Sunday of Advent. Since decorating seems to have become my job, that’s when I do it. That’s between one and two weeks before Christmas.
It comes down roughly January 6.
Growing up we always put ours up December 12, on my birthday.
Now it seems we do it much earlier. Probably the weekend after Thanksgiving. Last year we trimmed the tree on my Mig’s birthday on November 20. We’d thought of doing it this weekend but now he’s out of town.
My fiancee is all about Christmas, so I have to fight with her not to put stuff up in friggin June. My earliest date I’m allowing is the day after Thanksgiving, so that’s the day when she’ll put it up.
I’m quite “meh” about Christmas, but she really likes it, so I have to get into it.
My parents put up their tree the Sunday after Thanksgiving, when my brother and niece and DoctorJ and I can be there to help.
We put our tree up sometime in the week or so after Thanksgiving, depending on when we have the free time to work on it. I was a little leery the first year we tried the live tree, since it seemed like an awfully long time to leave one up, but it stays pretty soft the whole time, so long as you keep it watered.
Neither of my kitties really bothers the tree. One likes to lie under it and watch the twinkling lights. The other only plays with the ornaments on the lowest branches. That’s where the unbeakable ones go.
We used to do it on Christmas Eve; not because it was Christmas Eve but because the next day would be Christmas. Probably it went up on the 22nd or 23rd occasionally. Took it down maybe January 2nd because you can’t really pretend anymore after that.
