I don’t want to Pit him. I don’t want to drive away new members of the board. I’m not really bothered by the polls. It’s entirely possible he knows the culture from long-time lurking.
I suspect we’ll start seeing his pro-Russia, incel, misogynist side come out any day now, just like all the other trolls that having been appearing here the last year or so.
People should stop feeding him, but damn are Dopers completely incapable of resisting a “tell me what your IQ is” thread.
No way we have that many posters with 150+ IQ. There is exactly one person on this board I believe is that smart.

I think only 1 poster with a 150+ sounds about right, I believe the board has a reasonable number of 130+ and even 140+ posters though.
150+ are 04 in 10000; 99.96th percentile
140+ are 38 in 10000; 99.62th percentile
130+ are 200 in 10000; 98.00th percentile

Same. I never opened that thread because that is something IDGASA (I don’t give a shit about).
I see people saying similar in the thread but I can’t say I’ve ever seen/heard anyone mention their IQ score outside of very specific circumstances (like a thread asking what it is).
It’s like being distantly related to a celebrity: kind of interesting to know about yourself, of minimal interest to most other people, and not something to drop into unrelated conversation unless you want weird looks.
People who don’t want/believe in the score seem more invested in it than people who know theirs

As to the OP, there’s only seven threads to choose from and a few aren’t polls (the orca brain thing and one about what’s the most challenging video game you’ve played) so I reserve judgment and find them to be Mostly Harmless.
It seems the best way to handle it would be to direct him to the Polls only thread.. That way he can post whatever he’s interested in without mucking up the message board.

Not telling=smarter than the average bear.
But, and back to the point of the Pitting, it’s been a contentious point on the board in the past, especially with concerns about how it’s applied and tested, without accounting for the exact society it’s testing for and the underlying assumptions, which are now semi-common knowledge. And that’s leaving out the congruence with a number of old and not-so old scientific racism and racial profiling threads that did not go well for anyone reading or involved in the discussion.
Yet, a claimed lurker, who says they’ve researched a wide variety of topics on the board prior to creating an account to post picks it as a a subject for a poll and for serious discussion? Remember, Humans has claimed the polls are just for interaction, but they do want to discuss the topics included. Yeah, that’s… not a good sign.

How can I express it? It looks strange to me that a long term lurker finally enters the conversation and hits the ground running with a barrage of polls (plus the orca thread and the video game thread, as Jophiel has pointed out, granted). Plus his reaction to a legitimate question. At least it seemed legitimate to me.
It probably should have been modded, to be honest. What did it have to do with the thread?
Dave88 has been modded in the meantime in the IQ thread, with no warning, but not for the questions I just quoted, but for the post that I quoted in the OP. And I took this to the Pit before the modding (!) because it is indeed not thread related.
Well, there you go. The point is that it wasn’t an appropriate place to ask that question and “he responded defensively to an inappropriate question” is a pretty relatable reaction.
