I voted that he would bulldoze it to the ground although my feeling is that he won’t go that far. Having demolished the East Wing, and made the beautiful Rose Garden into a tacky outdoor coffee shop patio, I can’t help thinking that his next idea would be that the remaining parts of the building don’t live up to his vision of the ballroom. That means he’ll have to “redesign” the rest of the property to meet his expectations.
I would really hope that he gets booted out of office sooner rather than later so that he sees all of his desecrations removed, and the building restored to its former glory. As a Brit, I feel very lucky to have visited and seen the White House before he got his dirty mitts on it, sadly I also feel that once he’s out, the building will forever be tarnished and tainted by his stain.
The land below MAL is coquina, which is not as solid as other limestone and is porous which lets in the extremely close water table. Therefore, according to google at least, basements are very rare in Palm Beach but some “waterfront mansions” have them. So yeah, he’ll probably make his bunker on the cheap and therefore easily flooded.
You are correct in the first part of your sentence: The nation is never going to recover, but I think it is your attitude that is part of the problem and not helpful. A large percentage of Americans are fascist and your constant accommodating of their fascism, your incessant excuse making for their fascism and your sympathy for their fascism is why we collapsed.
It’s a little like the old saw about how if you owe the bank $1000, you have a problem, but if you owe the bank 1 million dollars, the bank has a problem.
There are too many people who voted Republican to disenfranchise and too many to disregard or otherwise ignore.
They have to be engaged if there’s any hope of reconciliation and anything other than division and acrimony. Their minds aren’t going to change themselves either.
So you feel free to be bitter and angry, but I’m choosing to try to work toward reconciliation.
It’s not their minds that need to change. It’s the minds of all the white non-Trump voters who keep trying to appease the fascists and delude themselves that Trumpers are ever going to change. You people have been an anchor around our necks and your refusal to see the depth of the problem is what killed us. The question isn’t how we heal the country (we don’t); it’s what do we do now that the largest military in history is in the hands of a fascist cult and how do we go about bringing the US down without killing everyone on the planet?
