Our 10 year old dog just had a big mass removed from her side. It’s almost certainly benign, but she’s a sad, sad dog. The told us that instead of a cone she could wear a t-shirt to make sure she leaves the incision alone. She apparently thinks that is undignified. She also doesn’t like not being allowed to go upstairs; she’s fine going up steps, but going down is dicey. It sure hasn’t affected her appetite. She’d probably double in size if we let her eat what she wanted while she can’t run around. Also, squirrels can run rampant in the yard for a couple of weeks.
The very least you could do is go out and chase them yourself while she watches from the window - show her that you care.
That would probably drive her up the wall.
Glad to hear your dog is on the mend, P-man, and I’m doubly glad to hear it was benign.
I hope your dog heals fast and can get back to a normal life.
Ahem. Doesn’t this fall under the “must post pet photo” rule?
Sad, sad, sad.
Get well P-mans doggy
She really doesn’t need to climb and descend stairs, so first I tried getting her to go in the crate she stays in when we’re not home. Since we’re home, much wailing and gnashing of teeth. No problem, I thought. we have the kids’ old gate up at the foot of the stairs. She dismantled it in 30 seconds and came upstairs. Hopefully she’ll just sleep through night two, since last night was like having a baby in the house. She was more like her usual self after about 4 or so this afternoon, so maybe she’ll snooze through the night like she normally does. The shirt I put on her last night was too big, and she got tangled up. She got a smaller one from Ms. P today, so she shouldn’t get her legs tangled. She’s sleeping quietly under the bed, which is different because she’s usually sawing logs by now.
My dog had to have a lump removed from her abdomen. It was benign. She came home with a bandage wrapped around her middle, but it kept riding up and exposing the staples, which caught on the carpet. The knot prevented her from getting tangled in it. The doc suggested a tee shirt knotted at the hem. It worked like a charm.
