I knew about the IMPOSTER of BANNED, the one with only 11 posts, who was right above me in Coosa’s thread warning me.
So, I guess it was your screwing over of Parrot that started all my problems. Once he got to clone me, I was banned, and then all the Coldfire’s kept saying there must be a reason. No. Turns out there was no reason. Seems like your tirades are snagging a lot of regular posters as fallout. I’m sure you think this is cute, but we don’t.

Is there any way to keep people from changing their email address to one that they don’t have access to. Perhaps make it automatically change their password and email it to them when they change email addresses. Either that or this cretinous piece of shit actually has the email address unclebeer@straightdope.net.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Lynn’s “confession” is a complete fabrication, and that she never guessed Parrot’s password. This is so improbable that I barely even consider it “going out on a limb.” If you have this confession or a link to it, please email me with it and I will fully retract this statement (assuming there is any semblance of veracity in the proof). Otherwise, you are lying and harassing moderators, both of which are not allowed according to the registration agreement (which is a moot point now, but two more to add to the list).
Is there a more effective way of keeping this degenerate from returning? I’m hoping that his ISP has been notified of this sort of behavior. Perhaps some hit men could be hired. Actually, the best way might be to simply delete entire threads started by this demented fucko until he gets the point that he is not only unwelcome here, but also completely unable to defend himself. I don’t know.
There seem to be a couple people hellbent on completely fucking up the pleasant experience that is the SDMB. If there is anything at all that I can do to help thwart their schemes, I will do it. Of course, he has majorly distorted what Lynn said. She seemed to have legitimate reasons to do what she did.
Frankly, this whole thing leaves my head hurting. I have read and re-read the OP a few times and can’t figure what the hell is going on. Why exactly does he have a beef with coosa? Unless Whatever was the imposter BANNED, then I don’t understand why he would have a problem. If he was the imposter BANNED then he should understand that stealing identities is a good enough reason to be booted and is not a personal vendetta on the part of the mods.
So, Lynn saw Parrot’s password in her administering duties and let him know that it was painfully obvious. And she admitted that she has changed passwords on banned posters, although from the context, it seems that she does this after banning them.
I think that someone with some ability in this regard really needs to make a couple changes to the VB software to make emphatically troll-unfriendly. Changes that would help, in my opinion would be:
Banned members have no profile or sigs.
Restrictions on allowable names, such as no leading spaces.
As mentioned above, email addresses are reverified when changed.
I understand that this might not be possible at the present time, but I would like to see this person prevented from ever returning, and breeding as well, if possible.
waterj2, many of the things you propose have been suggested by the SDMB administrators as enhancements to vBulletin. vBulletin is more stable than UBB (remember when the board had to be brought down for maintenance several times a week? and notice that it’s never happened since the vBulletin upgrade?) but some features in UBB didn’t make it to vBulletin.
vBulletin also has a forum that you can go read if you’re interested.

We’ve let the vBulletin people know that there are security holes. We are hoping that there will soon be patches. In the meantime, we’re doing the best that we can.
Here’s the sequence I get out of it, from the above, plus the thread where UncleBeer gets mad at Webmaster:
Lynn wants to ban Parrot, but instead of regular banning changes his password to lock him out.
He gets pissed and takes on a bunch of identities. Osip, if I recall, and Ayesha, and BANNED. All people who have recently done a bit of trollspotting. Parrot, being banned because of trollspotters, targets them.
Somebody tips off Osip, and he’s cleared.
Somebody tips off Ayesha and she is cleared.
Coosa tips off BANNED and he is cleared, but asks for a new name, Webmaster, and swears off posting in the Pit.
Coldfire can’t let it go and asks for Webmaster to be banned.
Somebody does, because “where there’s smoke, there’s fire”
Webmaster is re-cleared and promised a new name, but realizes Coldfire would simply go after the new name, so he decides to quit Webmaster and start over, making an exit gripe thread, which he abandons, knowing it will ban the name Webmaster, no loss to him.
9)UncleBeer says his gripes are all lies, and sticks up for Lynn.
10)Lynn says she actually did those things and gives her reasons, one being that Webmaster=Parrot, which is wrong.
“Whatever” is a one-shot name just to tell UncleBeer he’s been conned by Lynn. And to tell Lynn what her part was. I think he doesn’t have a gripe against Coosa, who was the only one who realized he was innocent all along, and framed by Parrot, as Osip and Ayesha, and others had been.
Presumably, He now has a new name, or soon will, and says he’s done with the Pit. But he predicts that efforts to suss him out will simply blot other good names.
Presumably, Parrot is working on a new list of targets, based on the latest batch of troll hunters above.
Alpha, in order to accept your slanted version of the way things happened, I would have to assign Webbie vastly more credibility than he has demonstrated having. Likewise I would have to assume that the mods and admins are less credible, and malicious, to boot. If you would like, I could easily detail at least ten times where BANNED/webmasterUSA has intentionally disparaged other posters with blatant disregard for the truth.
And it’s nice to see that you are indeed looking into a technical solution to the problems this person is causing. Not that I doubted you guys. You’re all the acme of excellence in moderation (errr, that’s excellence in the art of moderation).

In a thread called “Do you know any poster with 2 current legal usernames?”, I ask a very civil question towards both WebMasterUSA and the moderators. I didn’t ask for a ban, I just didn’t understand why someone who got banned four times would be allowed a namechange and hence, a second chance.
Bear in mind that I do not KNOW whether all four of the “BANNED” incarnations where the same person. It is quite possible (just because there is no evidence I have to the contrary) that the original “BANNED” was basically a good guy who just thought it was a funny name to use. The problem is, that all four of then got banned. So I don’t KNOW who’s who, and that’s why I ask for some explanation. The way I see things, WebMasterUSA could very easily have explained himself in 3 or 4 sentences.

The question is: what DID happen in response to my question? Read the thread I linked above, and judge for yourself. Webby gets angry and accuses me of having a “sad campaign”. Show_Biz comes in and basically repeats all this in a more elaborate manner. The interesting thing here might be that I NEVER spoke to Show_Biz before that moment. Oh well.
If you REALLY want to know what happened, check out the “Wally are you putting us on?” thread. Again, I ask a civil question, directed at Webby and the mods. What happened next is history. I had no intention of going after one specific innocent user whatsoever, and that IS what you seem to be implying.
