Uh-oh.
Wow, the Pope asserts what Pope’s have always asserted and it’s a scandal! How ignorant were you people before?
Apostolic succession is just about who made whom bishop. When the Anglican church split from Rome, they had bishops who were ordained by the Roman bishops, who claim a lineage from the apostles. So the lineages are there, and can be traced at least back before the schism. So what matters is whether you believe in the Pope’s ability to ‘bind and loose’.
If you don’t believe in the Pope’s ability to bind and loose, then how is him saying his way is correct and yours is wrong, any different from you saying that it’s wrong to say this?
Everyone who isn’t a liberal Unitarian is going to Hell!
Goddamn that Pope for being no more intolerant than me! How dare he!
Back to medieval times!
Yep, the whole reason to kick it on the prod tip is to dis the catholics.
You got it. Good boy!
I hope it’s not Black and White He’s playing. Too many accidental clicks turned me from good to evil, and the villager-eating Creature I had didn’t help much.
Hmm, I’m not liking how easily I can apply that to real life.
Still, I would like to know whose ass the Pope has been grabbing, so I can be even more outraged and stuff. My blood pressure’s not high enough lately, I feel.
I was raised UU. What you have to bear in mind is, while many of us believe in God and all of us believe in evil, none of us believe in sin, as a form of spiritual pollution on the soul that cuts it off from God. And without sin, you don’t need Christ – at least, not as a substituted sacrificial sin-redeemer. (As a moral teacher he’s still studied and quoted.) So we’re really not a “Christian” church in that sense. And the Unitarian Church originally was founded on denial of the Trinity, meaning rejection of Christ’s divinity, se we have never been a “Christian” church in that sense, either. But you will find more vigorous debate over moral and spiritual matters in a UU congregation than any other church’s.
Actually by definition.
What do you think Protestants are protesting exactly?
The several photos, actually.
Add me to the not-at-all-outraged list. Obviously he thinks Catholics are right and everyone else is wrong. Who is surprised by that? Unless he’s calling on his minions to go out and commit violence or unprecedentedly obnoxious levels of evangelism, what’s the issue?
Were any of them right? I mean, it goes without saying that some of them had to be wrong, and therefore were misleading their flocks, doesn’t it? Can two popes disagree and both be right?
The Pope said that the RC Church is the one true path?!
Shocking, just shocking.
You begin to understand why I chose what I chose.
It’s “shocking”, or at least offensive because of all the propaganda we hear about how the Pope is a Great Moral Leader, and how we should take his opinions seriously because he wears a funny hat.
Personally, I see no reason to trust or respect his opinion on anything beyond empty theology more than I would that of Bob next door, or less.
Yes, after trying to keep a giant cow from eating all my villagers, it’s very clear to me.
Eh. If you’re not a Bible literalist, you don’t have to believe everything it, or Paul, says. After all, Paul’s the guy who was talking about how Jesus will be back Real Soon Now and so you should be spending all your time getting ready for that, but oh ok, if lust is distracting you from it then “it is better to marry than to burn [with lust],” or how women shouldn’t be heard in church, etc.
Seconded. A better designation would be “asstard.”
No one expects the Unitarian Inquisition!
We have ways of making you think for yourself!
Beware the Unitarian Jihad !
But they’re not! Not, not, not, noooottttt!
Recognise my power, dammit! Why don’t you people RECOGNISE MY FUCKING POWER!
[stamps feet, goes all red in face]
It’s pathetic, is what it is. My five year old comes up with more persuasive drivel while having a tanty or playing games with his friends.
