Popular sitcoms that suck(ed)

There was one with Suzanne Somers and Patrick Duffy that was candy coated dreck - it was painful just knowing it existed.

Step By Step

Married with Children
Seinfeld
Friends
Cheers (although I loved Frasier)

I know a lot of people don’t agree with me and that’s fine. I just never liked any of those shows and didn’t see what so many people saw in them.

Even though I personally love The Big Bang Theory, I can understand why it’s mentioned in this thread. The reason that I love it so much is that it’s focused very precisely on a specific demographic. If you’re not a nerd, it won’t resonate nearly as much.

Not your show, but it brought to mind:

She’s the Sheriff

Like so many here, utterly without redeeming value, unless you count the fact it was only a half-hour long.

I second Coach, what a horribly unfunny show. Dober is stupid and a 50 something coach pathetically tries to woo a girlfriend despite still being a child inside.

Cue the laugh track cause that’ll be the only chuckles they generate.

I’ve watched reruns of Married With Children and the racy jokes seem so mild compared to current television. Watching an episode of Two and a Half Men makes Married With Children seem like watching The Dick Van Dyke Show.

I remember one joke where Peg accused Al of cheating on her and Al replied, "Why would I go out for milk when I have a cow at home?’

There is only one “Worst” sitcom of all time.

You youngsters are fortunate never to have experienced a show with not one, but two of the least interesting characters in the history of television (Ozzie and David), the least charismatic person in rock and roll (Rick, who made Pat Boone look like Mick Jagger) non-existant plots and an incessant, 1950’s style laugh track that (perhaps fortunately) drowned out all dialog. The only even mildly interesting artifiact from the show was Harriet’s insistence that she and Ozzie sleep in the same bed, since that’s what they did in real life.

What earns this show the title of Worst, however, is that it ran for 14 years.

I’d bet that if this thread goes on long enough every sitcom will be listed by someone.

I disagree with 3rd Rock From the Sun, though it probably did go on too long and the finale was weak.

One I thought sucked was Perfect Strangers, I just felt that show was dull and unfunny, but I remember in high school being the odd guy out who didn’t like it.

Big Bang Theory was the first one that popped into my mind too.

I know I’m going to be the only one to say this, but I cannot STAND Arrested Development.

I agree with many of the shows I’ve seen mentioned above (especially Home Improvement), but two that I haven’t seen mentioned are The Flintstones and That’s So Raven. I enjoyed The Flintstones when I was a kid, but now I just can’t stand it.

let’s see, where to begin…

Good Times
The Jeffersons
Mr. Belvedere
Laverne and Shirley
Too Close for Comfort
Veronica’s Closet
The Nanny
Different World
Family Matters
Designing Women
I Love Lucy (yeah, I said it)
Diff’rent Strokes
Charles in Charge
Bernie Mac Show
Three’s Company
The Ropers
The New Girl (thought I was gonna like it, can’t stomach it)
Webster
Welcome Back, Kotter
Fish

mmm

From a UK point of view.

It ain’t half hot mum.

I don’t know if the fact that only some of the “indians” are actually asian makes it better or worse.

The George Lopez Show.

The actress who plays London, Brenda Song, is an 11 out of 10 when it comes to looks, and seems like a nice person as well from what I can tell from seeing her on talk shows and PSAs. Her character and her show, however, both suck.

Umm, I think I’m in trouble, gang. I told my wife that I despise this show. Not Ray as much as the way-too-annoying-to-even-be-believable mother and the wife-who-must-be-obeyed.

My wife (who I thought was sweet) said she liked the show…
I especially like the wife”.

Uh, oh. Does someone have a couch available, preferably in the Upper Midwest? If I’m married to someone like Ray’s TV wife, I might be needing it.

Thanks for guessing everybody, but nobody has got the right answer which is:

WHO’S THE BOSS?

If there’s one among you that would rather watch five minutes of any episode of that show than gargle sulfuric acid, you’re either a masochist or… no, wait. That is the only explanation.

Two and a Half Men, definitely, but I also agree with the Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet. I voluntarily went to bed early to avoid that steaming road apple.
I will add Mayberry RFD and the final years of My Three Sons (with wife #2 and the irritating stepdaughter Dotie).

I am not sure how the OP can be read any way other than “What popular sitcoms didn’t you personally like?”

And my answer to that is the grossly overrated, not-wearing-well-with time Friends.

**Friends **- I disliked most of those people, with a special hatred set up for Ross and Phoebe. David Schwimmer is one of the most annoying people in Hollywood. He is the poster child for whiny and depressed, and I wanted to smack his face every chance I saw him. Phoebe wasn’t funny. Ever. She was annoying and very stupid-sounding. I found something to dislike about every character, except Cox, who I watched with the sound down. I’d watch just about anything else before settling on Friends.

**Seinfeld **- It grew on me over the years, but the first season is so painfully bad I can’f believe it didn’t get cancelled. Jerry’s smarmy grinning in the first season, Elaine’s bad hair and wardrobe,

Full House - Worst show of all time.

Tyler Perry - Everything he touches turns to gold, so he’s appealing to someone. He made the most money in Hollywood last year, $140 million. Really? I can’t make it to a first commercial break with his shows. But he’s a brand unto himself. I just don’t get it. Maybe white people aren’t supposed to get it. But I’ve tried, and this guy is not funny.

One of the shows not getting too much love that I’ll stick up for is Everybody Loves Raymond. Excellent support characters in his parents and brother, but I absolutely loathed the the twins, and Debra’s parents. But the show has a lot of situations I can relate to, and I like Romano’s comedy. It’s funny to the point of absurdity, and that’s what I liked about it.
