IIRC,
The bombs are always aimed at you at the start of the set, walk over to the pipe and get the first bomb over that way.

I think that was my favorite part. Especially with GlaDos getting all excited, “Yeah, burn it down! I really like this guy.”
Tried it. There simply are no bombs. When the set starts (the revving up noise), I’m in front of the pipe waiting. And the boss goes through the bomb motion (kinda jerking) for 5 times, but nothing comes and hits me, nor the pipe. It’s the weirdest thing.
“Burning people. He’s saying what we’re all thinking!”
I keep thinking Wheatley reminds me of Nick Frost, especially as playing Commander Henderson in Hyperdrive.
Hamlet, did you ever get past where you were stuck?
So my oldest kid has gotten a lot better at the controller, and we’re going through the co-op game. She’s desperate for approval from GlaDOS, which is great when she insults/damns with faint praise pretty randomly - “I did the hard part, why is the computer being so mean to me?”
Is anyone having problems with motion sickness playing the game? The game is fantastic but I can’t go more then 10 minutes without getting a headache and nausea.
Even thinking about playing is making me sick!
No, I’m not at all.
Good news everybody! According to this sometime this summer there will be downloadable content for the low low price of free.
I don’t have Portal 2 yet, unfortunately, but for whatever reason Valve’s Source-engine games always seem to nauseate me on the default settings. Messing around with some of the advanced video settings seems to help quite a lot, particularly the field of view. Although what’s odd is that turning it up helped in Half-Life 2 and Portal, but for some reason I had to turn it down Left for Dead 2. Go figure. I’ve also heard that running without the vertical sync on can cause motion sickness in certain video card/monitor/person configurations. Just turning down the mouse sensitivity or disabling motion blur (if that’s an option) can help too.
D’Oh! I got stuck here (only time in the game), and got out of it in an unorthodox way. Failing to notice the tall pillars, I worked with those supporting the platform we’re trying to get to. They not being tall enough to give the necessary momentum, I had a portal on the underside of the platform (possible with the right orientation) on the near side of the pillar nearest the angled platform, and the other portal directly underneath it. I then went into an infinite drop, and after a few attempts fired a portal onto the angled platform, which threw me successfully. I’ve just gone back and redone it, and the proper way is rather easier…
+1. This is what I came onto the forum to say. (cont.)
In the early stages Glados does little but insult us - it’s amusing but unsophisticated. I laughed at the first fat joke, but this was way overdone by the end. It’s a real shame that they didn’t try to recapture the mind games of the first Portal, because they were imo what took it from being an excellent game into being something truly special.
I thought the game dipped badly between waking Glados and finding Wheatley again, partly because we were being (re)trained in basic portal technique, but mostly because there was no carrot - real or imaginary - to drive us forward. I was very pleased when she started dropping hints about parents, but this was a deliberate anticlimax and all for nothing - real shame this wasn’t a central tension throughout the game (Portal 3?).
On the whole I thought it expanded upon the original in every possible way except this one, which is a pity.
I did, as well with Half-Life 2’s vehicle stages.
I am very sensitive to motion sickness. A glass of water mixed with a tablespoon of ginger about 20 minutes before I start playing helps with it sometimes.
Just beat Co-op with my wife. I think I had more fun with that than the main campaign which is saying alot.
I went through singleplayer twice (second time with commentary on) and it was interesting to listen to some of the little tidbits. My only complaint was that there wasn’t enough of them. I even thought for awhile I must have been missing them but unless they were really tucked away they were really stingy.
I’m already wanting the DLC to come out so I can go through that. I hope they up the difficulty just a notch but don’t go crazy. The Co-op seemed to be a nice blend of challenge vs fun but singleplayer was just a tad too easy.
What was great about the first Portal, was that GLaDOS was… mad. Unpredictable. Totally batshit cookoo. There was something seriously wrong with her.
Portal 2’s GLaDOS is just evil.
Her motherly side’s interesting though.
That’s not GLaDOS that’s Carolines doing, GLaDOS fully intended to kill you/Chell with the turrets (remember the goodbye chuckle).
I tried some ginger pills and sea bands and was able to play longer before motion sickness came in.
I read a few places that motion sickness is due to the fast movement and the portal action of switching your location so fast.
Source games used to make me really sick. Over time I just built up a tolerance. Now they rarely make me ill at all. Give it some time and you might just get used to it.
I had to reload an earlier game, and play through part of it again, and it worked. I found a couple of videos on youtube that showed the exact same thing that happened to me. It must just be a glitch.
I got to see the ending, which was great. Although I do have questions about GladOs’ rationale at the end.
I really enjoyed the game. Still playing through the Co op with my daughter and, when I can stop her from taking my head off or high fiving me, it’s quite enjoyable too. I’m glad they included it, because it did seem to go by quite quickly.
You can now make your own levels - how cool is this?!
Oh man, I really wanted to check this out, but you have to access it through Steam. I bought the PS3 version of the game, and while this entitles me to a Steam version too, when I went to register the game code in Steam it said before I could do that, I first had to open the game on the PS3 and from there link up my PSN and Steam accounts. Which I can’t do because the Playstation Network is STILL down. This also means I can’t start playing other folks’ maps yet, either.
On a happy note, though, I’m really glad I decided to play through a second time for the commentary, not just because some of the commentary was interesting, but because I picked up on all these little additional details or occasionally hidden things I missed the first time. I poked around a lot more the second time through and found out sometimes just lingering around can result in some funny dialog from the characters, the best by far being in the part where…
…he KILLS YOU! Wheatley tries to get you to jump in the pit promising there’s a Pony farm at the bottom. And a Boy Band! And they haven’t seen a woman in years! And much more additional hilarity. Here, if you missed it like I did on first run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BcPJfWxYLc
