Just kidding about the scotch eggs.
What do y’all think about another Portland Dopefest?
If yes, where and when?
Resturant or potluck?
Dressed to the nines, or clothing optional?
Drunk or sober?
Sounds like a great idea from upriver.
A public spot means nobody is stuck having to clean the living room or scub the moat, and it’s nice to have a place where drinkables are brought to you on demand. Of course it’s also nice if it’s a venue where kids are welcome too, so as not to exclude parents.
OTOH, potluck can be fun, too, and definitely cheaper.
And SOME of us enjoy Scotch eggs, even if our colesterol count doesn’t.
I’m pretty much stuck with a Saturday or Sunday. How about a Leapin’ Leap Year Dopefest on the 29th? It’s a suitably arcane occasion.
Unfortunately(for me), my son is going to an all night D&D party on the 28th, and if it went as long as the last one did I’m going to need to sleep the last half of the 29th.
What about the next Saturday or Sunday?
Scotch eggs … mmmmmm
The only mistake I made last time was using the jumbo eggs.
I’m available on March 6 or 7 (and that’s the important thing, isn’t it?).
I’ll suggest a McMinnimin’s–they exist everywhere, they’re family friendly and they have great french fries. Oh, and they don’t serve Scotch eggs!
Raleigh Hills Pub has always been one of my favorites–several big tables for a group to hang around, and a covered outdoor section in case it’s an early Spring nice day. Fulton’s is another great place, but a bit cramped unless the weather is good enough to be outside. I haven’t been to many of the newer McMinimin’s, but isn’t there a bar downstairs at the Crystal Ballroom? That could be nice.
Yes, i know I didn’t spell the name correctly, but you knew what I meant, didn’t you?
We made Scotch eggs for the big Robert Burns birthday party recently and, on the advice of the GirlChild, we baked them. Came out just great.
Interesting fact: if a Scotsman gets drunk enough he’ll share his Scotch with you.
Kallessa, you don’t like scotch eggs? really? What’s not to like?
Incidentally, as far as I know, I have no weekend commitments for the next month or so, except that I have to go to Eugene some weekend soon. But that’s not set yet.
If March Earliest is o.k. with everyone, then where, oh where can we meet?
We’ve used the McMinnimins in St. Johns before. Will there be any minors attending? If so, that could make a difference.
No minors from this quarter, but we’ll be in California Thursday through Sunday, so I’ll have to pass if it’s on the sixth or the seventh unless it were on the Sunday and our filight got into PDX on time. I’ll have to check the schedule…
If we are able to attend, I’d be happy with any of the McMennamin’s - they are a known quantity with some delightful brews, and, as Kallessa pointed out, extremely good fries.
No Scotch eggs, though
Yay, Dopefest! I think Joel and me are free every weekend in March. And I think we’re open to any sort of venue, as long as it’s wheelchair accessible. Yay!
Is it that time again? Sure, I’m up for it. I’m only doing temp work these days, so I’m pretty open.
As for venues, I’ve suggested this before, but how about the Laurelwood Pub in the Hollywood district? It’s similar to McMenamins, but superior in all ways, IMHO. Better food, better beer, and perhaps most importantly for our purposes, bigger tables. It’s also extremely kid-friendly, for those who might be bringing little ones.
As an added bonus, it’s half a block from the famous and picturesque Hollywood Theater, and just around the corner from Things From Another World, the place to shop for all your comic book, RPG, and wacky figurine needs.
I forgot to mention, it’s also fully wheelchair accessible. Rather more so than the St. John’s Pub, which, IIRC, was a little bit difficult for Gr8Kat to navigate.
Hey, perhaps I can make it this time?
You guys make the date/time and, as long as something doesn’t happen last minute, I’ll be there.
Once again, I bring the remote controled farting machine.
But what the hecks a scotch egg ? From what ive seen its one of those things ya either really hate or really like …
so if i could get the short version of whats in it … .
A Scotch Egg is a hard-boiled egg wrapped in sausage, breaded and deep-fried. Yummy artery-clogging goodness. They’re sort of a Portland Dopefest tradition.
The Laurelwood Pub sounds like a damn fine idea to me.
March 6th or 7th?
Well, poo. It’s been a long time since I terrorized a Dopefest, and my husband and I will be visiting Portland the weekend of the 13th. Off by one week!
I’ll try for a Scotch Egg while I’m there, though. F’real.
Me, too.
I’m thinking I see a connection… Britney schedules a concert in Portland, Czarcasm mentions a dopefest. Hmmm.
BTW, I was going to go to that dopefest thing… really. Just not by myself. (I’m shy, not paranoid. Promise.)
Okay, so it’s got all those things, but the important thing is: Do they have good fries? And in my world, good fries are long, skinny, firm and greasy (but in a good way), so I have high standards!
Regardless of the fries situation, I’m fine with the Laurelwood.
