Well, Czarcasm, being a mod and all, will be wearing an air of infallibility, and I will be wearing an air of decrepitude…
No? Okay, I notice that I’m the only person who has a picture on the people pages, and it does sorta look like me. (I’m much more handsome and rugged looking IRL.)
Are you guys in the witness protection program?
If not, what do you look like?
Or - since the Horse Brass Pub was Czarcasm’s idea I assume he has some familiarity with the establishment, so let’s put it to him. (the question I mean.) Czarcasm, How big is this place anyway?
Do we need to make reservations? Can we make reservations?
If so, should we just register as Cecil Adams?
Is there an area of the pub that is more desirable to congregate at?
I suppose we could all wear hats, or flowers, or something.
What time shall we meet?
Does anybody have any suggestions?
[aside]: Hometownboy, you’re within shouting distance of 52? Well, we’re on the other side, so shout loud, we’re getting hard of hearing. [little old man voice]“When I was a kid we had to walk barefoot in the snow for six miles to get a scotch egg”[/little old man voice]
In the pubs I used to frequent in my youth, (and occasionally still do), If one comes in yelling “where are the dopers?” people start jumping out of windows.
Oh well, I suppose we’ll cope.
An air of infallibility AND filk-singing as well? We mere mortals will definitely have to be on our best/worst behavior to muster up.
Still haven’t heard a suggestion for time of day. Our preference would be sevenish, giving time for some suds, some laughs and the 90 minute drive home before too late at night.
God Damnit!
Ex-southeast-Portland resident here, now languishing in SoCal, about to literally cry because I miss the Horsebrass so much. Scotch eggs! Old Foghorn! Old Crustacean! I spent four birthdays in a row there. Alas.
I hope you bastards have fun.
I don’t know about the rest of you yahoos, but I’m checking in at about 3pm, and staying all night!
As far as filk singing goes, I could come in singing “Carmen Miranda’s Ghost” or “Star Trekkin’”
Kallessa, I’ll keep your warning in mind, but I’m intrigued enough to give it a try.
Of course, I ignored the warning about poi when I was at a Maui luau eight years ago. Now that is some truly vile stuff.
Czarcasm feels like showing up around 3 pm. Others say times between 5 and 7 pm. Personally, I wouldn’t mind showing up at an afternoon time. 4 or 5 o’clock sounds good to me.
Our only other social committment for Saturday the 31st is to attend, ahem, a yurt-warming celebration. (Hey, it looks great on my calendar) My wife’s brother has purchased a yurt which will be set up in their back yard. I’m not sure if this is a portable sort for camping, or more of a freestanding practice room for him. (He’s got a masters in school administration, works for the Education Service District, but his hobby/avocation is as a pretty good blues guitar player).
If we could nail down the times for that, we’d be a little more certain about our arrival in Stumptown. I’ll try to firm that up this weekend.
I thinkJoel and I can come. I haven’t told him yet, though–guess I better do that
I’m familiar with the name Horse Brass because Daria has raved about it in her Local Entertainment Guide (any other NRK suckies out there?), but I don’t know where it’s at. Can anyone give this Salemander directions? (Ok, I’m in Dallas, west of Salem, but I like saying Salemander :))
Checking back in, and it looks like me and the charming and talented [sub]near[/sub] Ph.D that I love will be there around fiveish.
We are coming from The Dalles, so 90+ miles out, but it’s a familiar drive, through some of the best scenery on the planet, in spite of the damn near perpetual rain fixture at Cascade Locks.
Furthermore, the Portland Police SWAT team has been temporarily suspended, a coincidence of the first order. I suspect the mysterious Hand of Cecil at work here…
I’m a bit over 110 miles from downtown Portland, but, (hangs heads, draws circles on the ground with her toe), eh, um, er, I don’t think I’m going to make it down. It’s not that’s it’s too far, but I’ve been constantly surrounded by people the last three weeks, and this will be the first Saturday where I haven’t had to work in a month, and I’m feeling anti-social and shy, and I may not be able to talk myself out of it (the anti-social part). It’s a self defeating defect I have–I complain I never meet anyone, then I don’t show up where I might actually meet people, so I never really do meet anyone, hence, my complaint is perfectly valid. Stupid, but valid. Not that there could possible be anyone on this board who feels awkward in social situations–not this sauve, sophisticated bunch!
Gr8Kat, I’ve never been to the Horse Brass and my wife says I suck at giving directions, but I’ll try. Hopefully someone will come along and correct my errors.
It’s at 4534 SE Belmont. South of Stark St. And north of Hawthorne Blvd.
Come on into Portland on I-5 and go East on I-84.
Take the 39th St(???) exit just before Portland Providence Hospital and go south to Stark.
Go left (east) on Stark to 45th.
Turn right (south) on 45th and go 2 or 3 blocks to Belmont.
I think it’s on the corner.
Hometownboy, are we gonna have to call your wife ‘Doctor Lady’? What’s her Doctorate in, anyway?
Kallessa,
Of course, we could just come to your house next time.
