Thanks for that link. There is more to the statute than that, including stated limits of liability, but I’m still dumbfounded. I’m wondering why/how this ever got included in the vehicle code. I realize we’re talking about CA, but still??? That’s nuts.
Good on him, I am glad that the homeowner and his wife are safe and uninjured. While it is a tragedy that someone did get shot, at least it was the armed robber who was shot. The fucker got what he deserved.
DGU with no deaths. I’m going to say it’s fair to give a bad review on Angie’s List if someone you hire to do work in your house comes back to rob you.
Mesa police are investigating a shooting that occurred after they say a man set fire to a mobile home and attempted to light the homeowner on fire Wednesday around 1 a.m.
Police say the incident took place near Dobson and Broadway roads in Mesa at the Holiday Village mobile-home park.
According to police, a 20-year-old man attempted to set fire to the a mobile home within the complex. When the homeowner heard a commotion, he exited his mobile home and confronted the man, police said.
The man then sprayed the homeowner’s face and body with lighter fluid and attempted to set him on fire, police said.
The homeowner then shot the man in the arm, and the man fled, running a street or two over from the mobile home, police said.
Police were able to find the man from a blood trail and heard his shouts about his injury.
The man was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
DGU with no injuries. Once the burglar put down the knife, it seems the homeowner didn’t consider him a threat and the burglar left. Apprehending the burglar would be great, but if it’s a choice between shooting him or a peaceful exit for police, better to allow him to leave than to kill him for sure.
DGU with one death. Even after meeting the robbers demands they were not satisfied and as a result one ended up dead, though from the article I can’t tell which.
DGU with no deaths, though a gunshot to the head. Robber displays a knife and promptly gets shot - a foreseeable consequence of some bad decision making.
3vs1 and the 1 prevailed. DGU with 1 robber dead, 1 robber apprehended, and another robber who ran away. I’m actually curious what the ratio of multiple person vs. single person robbery/crime is.
DGU with no deaths. That’s a good dog. While storm doors, dogs, etc. are good to have, they really only give you potentially more time if a person is determined to do harm. In this case, enough time to call 911 and and retrieve available arms.
DGU with no deaths. Apparently the intruder had just been released from jail after being arrested for aggravated assault of a police officer. I’m sure he was a stand up guy.
Shooting is in Prince Georges County, MD. In that county, I’m not sure that I’m shooting someone through my front door. Even if he’s already pried off my storm door. Is there an immediate threat of deadly harm or serious bodily injury if the bad guy hasn’t gotten through the front door yet? I’m not sure that there is, in the hypothetical eyes of a PGC State’s Attorney. And if there isn’t, then why are they shooting?
I hope it works out for the homeowners.
Completely this. Dogs are great for figuring out when something’s wrong, and giving you time to get your shit together. Also, from accounts of burglars I’ve read, dogs aren’t a guarantee your home won’t get robbed—and they won’t stop a determined bad guy—but they make it tougher, and he might just decide to pick another house or apartment that doesn’t have one.
Yep. My Chihuahua is a very light sleeper. Late the other night he woke me up to tell me that there was somebody on the porch who didn’t belong. I hit the lights, but what/whoever was out there was already gone. That’s the great thing about dogs. They don’t have to be large and bitey to be worthwhile additions to security.
