There is also an Uncle Julios close by. One of my favorites. The margarita swirls are to die for!
Dallas sights to see…
The Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center & Crow Museum of Asian art complex is pretty neat.
The obvious Dealey Plaza stuff, including the 6th Floor museum.
If you want to go way East (and not even in Dallas), there’s Southfork Ranch in Parker, TX (basically take Parker in Plano eastward until you find it)
Sam Moon… there are two that I know of in the Dallas area. One in Frisco on Preston near the Stonebriar Mall, and one at I-35 @ 635, in the NE corner. Put simply, they sell women’s earrings, purses, belts, cheap jewelry; basically stuff that you wear for 6 months until it’s out of fashion. Beware- the place is an absolute zoo on the weekends. My wife dragged my sorry ass there one day, and I wanted to go play in the traffic instead of being in there. It’s like Christmas-time sales year round.
Dallas probably has the better restaurant selection versus Fort Worth. There are MANY great places here in all cuisines.
The Fort Worth Stockyards & Billy Bob’s are entertaining if you’re into C&W music and stuff- not quite my speed, but still a fun place to go once in a blue moon.
Downtown Fort Worth (Sundance Square) is a great place to go out- many bars and restaurants within walking distance of each other. If you’re a beer person, the Flying Saucer is the place for you.
Okay, I definitely want to do Tex-Mex for dinner. Wherever you guys agree is best!
TroubleAgain, you can’t swing a dead cat around there without hitting a decent Tex-Mex place. In the Grapevine area, my favorite is Baja Grill for their killer margaritas and fish tacos.
Zyada’s suggestion of El Fenix is a great choice. There’s also Esparza’s and Los Amigos (if it’s still there. I haven’t been in a few years).
dalej42, we tried the Uncle Julio’s in Grapevine about a month ago and I was disappointed. We may have caught them on a bad night. It wasn’t bad, it was just not any better than any other Tex-Mex place and it was nearly twice the price.
I’ll be there!
Anyone heard from Ponder Stibbons? He’s a sweetie and should be included.
At least beads are small and easily portable. If you were into fabric, not only is that a lot heavier, but I’d have to talk you into arriving earlier so we could go fabric shopping!
What Tex-Mex place was it, you locals, where Bill Clinton ate in Dallas? Ojeda’s?
Las Colinas has a movie studio you can (or could, a few years ago) tour. It isn’t a full-blown Hollywood thing. They do (did?) miniature stuff for some for one of the Star Trek series, show how sound effects are added, have memorabilia, etc. Can’t find a link for it.
Yeah, Sam Moon is nuts on weekends.
Anybody from outside Dallas who plans to drive around here needs a GOOD map.
Oh, I could be into fabric if I let myself. :smack:
Yes, it was Ojedas. The one on Lemmon over where I live. Don’t think there are any near Grapevine, though.
I suppose I could participate. If we can find a place with free wireless access, we could even have a “Live Update” thread!!
Hey, Trouble, don’t get put off by people telling you you’re “out in the burbs”. I think something like 90% of the population of the metro area is outside the city of Dallas.
PS - If you’re looking for the best Tex-Mex in North Texas, the place you’re looking for is “Herrera’s”. I’m talking old-fashioned “greasy spoon” style Tex-Mex. Not a place to go for your diet, but mmmmmm … There’s something like three of them around, so take your pick.
I wish you would.
Maple! Not Lemmon.
I wonder if I still have the hearing and memory to take up my old Chronicler role again? We haven’t had a good “Quotes Out of Context” in ages.

Shall we say March 9th (Sunday) starting at 6PM?
Does anyone have an objection to El Fenix? It’s pretty easy to get to from both Dallas and Ft. Worth.
I’ll try to keep it open…looks okay so far.
-
We should pick someplace close to where TroubleAgain is staying, or at least easy to drive to. The roads up around Grapevine Mills are squirrelly (e.g. parts of 121 are toll) and we don’t want her to get lost driving to or from.
-
I notice that’s the weekend we spring ahead. We non-churchgoers will feel the impact of losing an hour’s sleep Monday morning.
March 9th at 6 p.m. I shall mark my calendar!
The 9th at 6:00 PM at El Fenix - works for me, barring unforseen circumstances.
My wife and I shall be there.
Potentially in depending on my March schedule.
I look forward to meeting some of the DFW Dopers!
Woo-hoo!
Let’s see how this works. Here is a supposed map to El Fenix:
If that comes up the same way for everyone, the “B” shows where Google thinks El Fenix is, but the little guy that is standing on the “114” is about where it really is.
For those approaching from the east, take the Main street exit, cross and turn into the Joe’s Crab Shack parking lot, then keep heading west.
For those coming from the west by way of 121, you will want to take the William D. Tate exit and stay on the access road (which I was reminded of today because I didn’t take that exit and it’s a long way to the next exit!)
TroubleAgain, would you like me to pick you up or are you going to get a car?
