Possible Breaking Bad spinoff. Better call Saul!

I consider this to be a major spoiler, myself. I would have appreciated not being told that he gets out of it alive. Would it have been so hard to not put the spoiler in the thread title?

How do you know it wouldn’t be set in a time before the Breaking Bad timeline? Or even concurrent (showcasing his other enterprises/clients).

There’s no spoiler here necessarily. They could kill him off and still have a Saul Goodman spin-off.

Of course, this does go back twenty years, so I will maintain my general point while feeling like a idiot about a series I should have remembered (as a spinoff).

Most spinoffs go the way of “Fish” and a thousand others, bombing badly when the super-funny essential sidekick, straight man or pal proves unable to carry a whole show. I see Saul as being exactly in that zone. He’d get very tiresome very quickly.

There’s also “NCIS” which is sorta a spin off of JAG, though I think it was one of those “backdoor pilot” thingies. What are some recent spinoffs that tanked?

eta: reading on I see standing wave listed that. Boston Legal is probably the most successful recent spinoff.

AMC has licensed the series, which means it’s pretty much going to happen. It’s being described as a prequel focusing on Saul’s earlier career. Episodes will be one hour, which I hope means we’re going to get something substantial and twisted even if it will certainly be less dark than Breaking Bad.

Spoiler for first half of season five, but… I wonder if this means Mike could make an appearance, seeing as how he was working for Saul as a private investigator / cleaner in season two.
