Has there EVER been a fashion trend that makes sense??? Let’s wear clothes that pull our wastes in so much we can’t breathe, and have people pull to yank them in somemore, lets stick chunks of metal through our ears, noses, eyebrows or whatever, let’s wear shoes that make our ankles weak and cause us to seriously damage our legs…
Yes, I wear high heels, have piercings, and follow trends, but I don’t think they make sense. Some hold that trends are all about sex, and looking good enough for it, but who knows. We all do these things on the name of appearance and we all like it at the time.
Black teens may be sucking on pacifiers in your neighborhood now, but the pacifiers have long been a rave thang. I don’t quite understand it, but they use quite a few infantile symbols, like stuffed animals and other kid toys as well (not to mention the really baggy dungarees). You can go see a photo of a pacifier-sucking raver here.
GaWD, can you be more wrong? Have you been to SF or Oakland? We got projects. We got project scandals. We got projects on how to build projects. Anyway, just drive through the city, you’ll see the projects. What I’d like to see is the projects (and the pacifiers, and the low hung pants) dismatled as such, and people should just live in regular communities, and helped out with the rent if they need it. Where did this whole projects thing come from? Ghettos of all kinds. Who the hell needs 'em? I think some of the statements like “That’s how we do it in…” really carry a lot more with them, some actual sense of pride that you live in an area seen by others as a dump, and dangerous in many cases. This is just more divisiveness we don’t need in this country.
Shit, were’d that come from, I just wanted to speak to GaWD, I guess.
Forgive me for not mentioning the names, but alot of you are right about the rave thing. I know alot of people on “E” and also alot of speed freaks…People have a bad habit of grinding thier teeth on these substances. As far as the other trends…who knows. I just hate the fact that bell bottom jeans are back…
Well, I’ve been there, but I generally don’t dig the area so I stay south of there. So, i could be wrong(who’da known GaWd could be wrong about something?) Even the omnipotent can make mistakes, can’t they?
Are you suggesting gentrification??? Just kidding I’m of the same opinion, but we all know there’d be more SF guardian paid spots regarding the gentrification of the area…and who needs that?
Well, I understand my son, I even want to speak to GaWd sometimes, ya know?(GaWd talks to himself too…)
Sili, reflecting on my conversation with this youth, when he said “he couldn’t wait to move from East Pally to the projects in SF”, I asked him why he wanted to move there, and wasn’t he supposed to elevate himself out of that.
He replied with a shrug that “that’s where I’m from”, and that he enjoyed slinging bags and such and just kickin it.
So, I wholeheartedly agree with your above deduction.
Whoa, a reply from GaWD. While I have your attention, about that raise and the new corvette…Oh, OK. I’ll wait.
That’s sad. I have heard plenty of kind of talk on both coasts of this country. People who literally don’t know the world outside their five or ten square block area. I will undoutably devote a part of my life to changing this type of situation. I know that East Pally recently got a bit of help and attention, and that was good to see.
Regarding doing things or dressing in ways that make you look like a freak to others;
All of this just goes to prove the age old observation that rebellion by youth takes on some of the strangest forms of behaviors known to their parents.
Personally the thing that gets me the most is the piercing gig. Here in the SF Bay area, I see it all the time It NEVER seems sexy or cool to me , but my teenage daughter doesn’t think it’s too bad. Personally I was born with the right number of holes and I have never seen fit to have any added. Any that I have accidentally added, I always had sewn up right away.
hijack alert.
In response to Bolo, I’m an SF native with piercings. Why? I like the way they look. I think they make me more attractive. I think other people with piercings are more attractive. I’ve also seen some that don’t work and are just plain ugly.
Thanks oldscatch, yours is probably the best reason to have piercings or to suck a pacifier, because YOU like it.
(Thanks for allowing me to get back to the topic of the thread, lest I be GUILTY of hijacking on my Very First Post!)
What does your piercing, or the pacifier for that matter, signify? Only you can really say, but it can mean you align yourself with a group of other like minded individuals.
What does the pacifier mean? Heck I don’t know but I’m beginning to like the thought of having a nipple in my mouth…
A lot of things that are popular are driven by the ideals of sex appeal. high heels make the curve of the claf muscle more shapely, and therefore, more sexually apppealing. clothes that pull your waist in are meant to emphasize both the hips and the bustline, which having in abundance used to signify better ability to bear children. The piercings for sex appeal? No clue on where that fits in unless it’s to emphasize an errogenous zone or improve stimulation of the pierced or the one receiving sexual favors from the pierced.
I do follow some trends only because it’s something I like regardless of whether it’s in style or not.
