I’m beginning to think you don’t actually know what “illiterate” means.
Firstly let me say that I agree with your stance on this but I have to take issue with the above. If I wrote of another poster, “I find your behavior cuntish in the extreme”, would you give me a pass because it wasn’t an insult but a description of my reaction to their behavior? If you would then it casts a whole new and interesting light on the rules.
<bolding mine> - you should step into the Walking Dead threads - especially the early ones - they have a very specific rule to avoid the comics.
Is there no way we can let the offending/offended parties fight it out to the death?
Yeah, good point – I retract my comment, and rephrase to “do you know what disingenuous means?”
I found the initial spoiler tag to be quite confusing. The OP had watched all of the available episodes and asked who he or she could root for. The question could only be directed to book readers and the spoilers could only come from the books, no?
TV spoilers doesn’t make sense in a thread talking about a television show. Anyone who isn’t up to date shouldn’t open the thread in the first place.
GAME OF DURPS
Drama! Bloody clashes! Treachery and deceit! Deep-seated hatred and acts of vengeance! Convoluted, often meandering storyline! All we need is more gratuitous boobage and a couple of CGI dragons.
Wow, thanks for the spoiler. I didn’t even know there was a seson 4 yet.
Seasons?!? As far as I was aware, there’s only one season in Game of Thrones - summer. The Starks keep saying that “winter is coming”, but it hasn’t yet - so I’m just going to assume you’re spoilering something. Jerk.
Well, I guess so. Since I have been consistently **AGAINST **spoilers, I guess one could say I *have repeatedly taken a particular stance toward spoilers *. But no one who read your post there nor the other posts would get that idea, just the opposite. This pretty well defines disingenuous.
A “spoiler” is (wiki) "A spoiler is an element of a disseminated summary or description of any piece of fiction that reveals any plot elements which threaten to give away important details concerning the turn of events of a dramatic episode. Typically, the details of the conclusion of the plot, including the climax and ending, are especially regarded as spoiler material. It can also be used to refer to any piece of information regarding any part of a given media that a potential consumer would not want to know beforehand. Because enjoyment of fiction depends a great deal upon the suspense of revealing plot details through standard narrative progression, the prior revelation of how things will turn out can “spoil” the enjoyment that some consumers of the narrative would otherwise have experienced."
or from our own Dex:“This applies to books, movies, plays, TV shows… anything with a plot. “Spoiling” is when you haven’t seen a particular movie (read a book, whatever), and you don’t want to have plot elements revealed in advance, and someone tells you that the boss is actually the double-agent. That’s “spoiled” the story/surprise for you.”
So, when someone discuss things yet to come, plot points not yet revealed, that’s a “spoiler”. Discussing things that have already happened or will not happen is not a spoiler.
Thus, in one case I mentioned that the Source material did not actually depict the graphic on Screen torture. The torture occurred, it was just shown a little differently in the Source as opposed to the Screen. And in fact, many others- even in the NON-spoiler threads- have mentioned HBO’s use of gratuitous nudity. That’s discussing a difference between the Source and the Screen. No one objects to those comments.
Instead of a PM, I believe I “reported” your post, which works out to the same. It’s your forum.
Those who do not read.
I can’t wait until the TV show passes the books, and then people who have only read the books will be complaining about big spoilers from the TV show. That would be dope.
Thank you. And do note, I did get my post spoiler tagged and after the OP clarified his question & the thread re-named I even said I would have no objection if my post was deleted, just in case.
I honestly have no objection to “no spoilers”. But the illiterati have caused more issues with hijacks and reporting anytime anyone even mentioned the word “book” that the people who give inadvertent info. They are the ones causing the problems. In the thread mentioned in the OP, a solid 10% of the posts are people complaining about my post, and thus Hijacking the thread.
[bolding added]
I’m a little confused. I take Dex’s “in advance” to mean “in advance of your having watched the show”. You seem to have it mean “in advance of where the show currently is”.
Clarification?
Those who areunable to read. And those who think silly fantasy novels are literature.
And a TV show.
Heh. I was right.
Rule No 1. Never get in a fight to the death with someone named Dr De[a]th.
DrDeth loses the argument. In the book he was banned after losing and making a Tyrion Dies!! sock but I have a feeling the producers at SDMB want to keep him around for the dramatic tension.
Ok, so we’re halfway there. I accept you didn’t mean it as a insult.
