Well, Fidel is getting along in years. I was curious as to what people believe will happen to Cuba after he’s gone. I assume he has appointed someone to succeed him, but will that happen? Will McDonalds be paddling Big Macs and Milkshakes over? Will the Wal-Mart army set up shop in Havana (and perpetuate it’s what it’s done to every small town in America)?
Just Curious. Seems like it is about to be a really interesting time in Cuba. Seems like it may be to my generation what Paris was in the 20’s. Am I wrong?
I’m no expert on Cuba so can’t help you much there. I do know a little bit about Big Macs though. It is my opinion that no one should ever paddle a Big Mac. While often saucey it has never been shown that paddling them has improved them any.
From my limited knowledge of the two major (one former) Communist powers in the world, China and the Soviet Union, there is a “trend.” Both Kruschev and (eventually) Xiaoping began undoing some of the policies and changes that the original leader had imposed. I can’t give cites, I’m afraid, because all of the books I used for research way back when are long gone.
China’s certainly an odd embodiment of communism, as private property and capitalist ventures are part and parcel of their current state.
Cuba? It remains to be seen what happens when Castro goes. He will, as, if nothing else, he’s just plain getting old. All of the communist countries that I can think of had pretty ambiguous methods for transferring authority, so we don’t really know who we’ll wind up with if Castro dies or retires. As I recall, the Soviets went through a quick succession of members of the old guard, none of whom had health or time on their side.
When Castro dies, or Lord let us pray, even beforeso, as he becomes more and more incapacitated by the greedy excesses of today’s sad and ever diminishing cadre of evil and murdering tyrants, let us at this time collectively thank the Lord above for the uplifting understanding that at the exact moment of Castro’s wonderful death, the abject slavery of the Cuban people will end forever, and then the courageous and vibrant people who are the Cuban people can then begin a new life with the interment of vile Castro’s low-life bones.
May God forgive all of you who have made apologies for Castro’s forty year subjugation of the great Cuban people. __ () __
Have you apoligists for Castro no shame? At your doorstep ten million people have lived in slavery by virtue of your rationalizations and cowardly pretence.
