I know I’ve asked about this before, but is there something going on with post counts with the new servers?
I posted back in November and just this morning and my post count is the same. I know it’s a low count to begin with, but I’d like to think I haven’t only posted 393 times since 2001.
It isn’t earth shattering, just a question that’s been bugging me for a while.
The post count displayed for any thread in which you have posted will always be your current post count, not the count as of that post. So, if you reply to this post you’ll see the same (new) post count on both responses.
Sometimes the counts vary a small amount just waiting for the database indexes to be updated. For example, your count shows 394 as I post this, but clicking on your profile’s link for Find all posts by yanceylebeef returns only 391, starting from 11-27-2001, 09:00 AM.
Perhaps waiting a day will let the counts catch up.
Or, sometimes a thread has been moved to the mod’s hidden forum and won’t be displayed.
As to the overall count, some things that can change it include database errors like we saw this week, deleted threads, and also any cleanup of threads deemed unworthy (like those titled Test) when space got tight a while back.
What he said; the post counts and etc. do not catch up instantly. Sometimes it takes a little while, but usually the same day is what happens. At times when traffic is heavier or there have been problems it might take a little longer.
