So, minding my own business responding to an ongoing conversation where lo and behold a message pops up that says:
‘You’ve commented a lot to this topic. Like 20% of the posts is you, dude. Maybe take a fucking break and let other people talk. Isn’t there something more productive you could be doing?’
They’ve got the wrong approach. Those of us who use the message board as a blog do so not by posting a bunch of times but by posting 1800-2400 word essays
Is this that fucking disco-dancing robot again? If so, my question is, if we cannot insult other posters outside the Pit, but we can insult other entities like public figures, are we allowed to insult the fucking robot?*
There’s also a note when you’re posting to the same person too many times. The first time I saw it, I was taken aback.
But after I thought about it for a bit, I think I like it. It’s annoying when two people dominate a thread, gong back and forth. It’s a nice reminder on both sides that other people are also watching.
I also like the nice reminder not to dominate a thread.
It’s better than the snarky reminders from other people. “Get a room.” “Get a blog.” . . . blah, blah, blah.
This is nothing personal, just a reminder from the system that it’s nice to include everyone in the conversation. You can go around it if you want. If there are good reasons to be posting so much to a thread without other people joining in, you’re at least reminded to consider why.
Of the board reminders so far, like the one where it tells you that the last post was X time ago, I’m liking them. They’re good reminders.
