I knew I shouldn’t have delurked. Try this.

Dammed Beavers

At least I resisted the temptation to submit again when it looked like the post didn’t go through.

Dammed Beavers (Fixed Link.)

Wow, Nuveena, impressive first post, seeing as how you’re covering my butt for me and all, and with a snopes link to boot. That puts you at +10; but then we gotta subtract 2 since I had to fix your link; but add 5 bonus points for doing it while keeping your post count at 0. That puts you at +13.

Welcome to the boards.

Okay, you get the 2 points back for fixing the link before me, +2 more for simulposting your second post and +5 for STILL having a 0 post count.

Dam, you’re good.

“Mr. Nielsen is not a toy (mechanical or otherwise), does not run on batteries, is not fifteen inches tall, is not predominantly pink, does not wear sunglasses or beach thongs, and would probably make a better babysitter than a children’s gift.”

From the ruling of Eveready Battery Co. v. Adolph Coors Inc., 765 F. Supp. 440 (N.D. Ill. 1991). The case was about a Coors Light commercial in which Leslie Nielsen dresses up as a giant, drum-beating rabbit.

DC: Despite his obvious learning difficulties?
PO: He seemed fine to me.
DC: (sarcastically) Oh, and you have a degree in psychology, do you?
PO: Yes sir, First Class Honours…

And the officer does indeed have a 1st Class Honours degree in psychology! (I’d post the names - the trial is a matter of public record - but I don’t want to embarrass anybody!)

The thing about the Musmanno dissent, I always think, is that it reads very well as a comment about itself.

Jodi, setting people straight on the Shakespeare thing catches people every time. And it’s amazing the way it always gets the same response, namely that they never meant it as a quote from authority, but just as common usage. Would they say that before they knew the full context, one wonders?

And my favourite legal quote is my sig line. It’s not about me but said by counsel about a plaintiff who was representing himself in a case my firm was involved in.

Oops. And my sig line is…
