Post your favorite sports trivia question

Johnson hit a big homer in the 1993 ALCS against the Blue Jays after hitting no home runs at all during the regular season.

I wonder how often a player has belted a dinger in a playoff game after hitting none in the season? Another White Sock, Scott Podsednik, hit a walk off home in the 2005 World Series after having a no homer season - and he’d already hit a home run in the ALDS that year. Then you’ve got the home run by Joe Blanton in the 2008 World Series, easily the worst hitter in all of MLB history with a home run in a playoff game.

Longest by time or innings?

There’s that famous-ish minor league game that went 33 innings in the early 80s but there might be one with more in a non-MLB related game in Japan or something.

Would a game that was tied and postponed and then finished months later when the teams were in proximity again count as the longest timewise?

In which Wade Boggs went 4 for 12 (including an RBI double in the bottom of the 21st inning to tie up the game), and Cal Ripken, Jr went 2 for 13!

Bumping this because this past Tuesday (March 24) was the 25th anniversary of Randy Johnson hitting a bird with a pitch.

Here’s the trivia question:

Who was batting when that occurred?

Calvin Murray

This one comes from an ESPN article:

There have been 670 World Series games played. Four of those games have featured 3 catchers appearing in the same game for the same team (as opposed to a combined total between the two teams).

How many of those games have featured all three of those catchers getting a hit and driving in a run?

It’s happened one time: Game 7 of the 2016 World Series between the Cleveland then-Indians and the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs’ Willson Contreras started the game and hit an RBI double in the 4th. David Ross came in as Jon Lester’s personal catcher in the 5th, and hit a solo home run in the 6th inning. Then Miguel Montero came in in the 9th and singled home a run in the 10th inning.

Name 5 England footballers that have three letter ‘O’s in their surname.

I can’t name 5 England footballers.

Wayne O’Rooney? Yeah, I got nothing, but I expect that most of those names will be Irish or African.

I can think of Peter Osgood (who was in a couple of World cups in the 70s)..

That’s one…

Please explain?

I was just being stupid. The Python joke is of course Coventry City.

Not at all. But I’ll have to look that one up

What sports feat occurred about a dozen times each year throughout the 50s and 60s, but occurred 50,000 times last year?

Who is the only team in MLB history to have 9 batters qualify for the batting title and 5 pitchers qualify for the pitching title in the same season?

The 2005 Cleveland Indians

My first guess had the right year, wrong team: 2005 White Sox. Alas, El Duque came up short on the innings, and Pierzynski and Crede on the PAs.

I’m amazed you could even come up with a reasonable answer!

I didn’t have a second guess. One of my favorite bits of trivia is the 2005 ALCS. The series went five games, and White Sox relievers got exactly two outs. In the first game loss for Chicago, Jose Contreras pitched 8.1 innings before turning it over to Neal Cotts to finish the ninth. After that it was four complete game victories in a row for the Sox. Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland, Freddy Garcia, and then Jose Contreras again.

I figured if any team had a chance…

That’s a hell of a guess, honestly. I wouldn’t have come close.
