Postally Aware Dopers: A quick Q about "Delivery Confirmation" service

When you include **Delivery Confirmation ** service (not to be confused by certified or return receipt, etc.) with a First Class letter, is the recipient told it’s a DC letter by the carrier at the point of delivery? Or does he just include the letter with all the rest of the recipient’s regular mail?

The reason I ask is that I want to send a letter and know that it is delivered, but I don’t want to call attention to it. I’m afraid that the recipient might refuse delivery if the carrier rings the bell and says, “Hey Mrs. Jones, this is a Delivery Confirmation letter. *Do you want to accept it?” *

Now I realize that the recipient will figure out that the letter was tracked when she picks up her mail – I think there is a sticker that goes on DC letters – but that’s okay.

(I checked the USPS website and it did not cover this question.)

I send a lot of mail with Delivery Confirmation. (I’m an eBay addict.)

As far as I can tell, they just scan the letter before delivering it in the normal way. The only thing that would call special attention to it would be the barcode on the letter/package.
