I am looking for an online source to purchase postcard-sized art. I am especially interested in finding the Ed Ruscha piece “A particular type of heaven”. You can buy these postcards at most any art museum gift shop, but I am looking for an online source since I live in a fairly small town with one fairly small museum. I am moving up to a larger office with two desks (hooray for me!) and would like some nice cheap art pieces that I can just pop into a frame and put on the desk. I do not have a family/pet/etc. so personal photos are pretty much out of the question. The wall art is taken care of but actually if I could find a print of the Ruscha piece then I would hang that on my wall. I just prefer tiny things, I know it’s weird…
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Happy weekend to all of you.
As far as I can tell, it’s owned by the de Young Museum in San Francisco. That particular painting doesn’t show up as an available print in the museum store. The online store doesn’t have a section for postcards. Maybe some San Francisco doper can wander over to the de Young and see if there is a postcard version of it. I don’t live particularly close to SF, but the next time I’m playing frisbee golf in Golden Gate Park, I’ll take a look for you.
Excellent! I have a few friends up that way and I’ll ask around. That’s a really nice museum, I was there a few years ago. Thanks for the offer, and how lucky are you to live where you do!
Yeah, I love the de Young. The view from the tower is fantastic. You can see the Marin headlands! Also, I notice that the de Young commissioned Ruscha to paint a couple more paintings to make A particular type of heaven a triptych so it’s obviously a pretty popular painting there. I’d say that increases the odds that you might be able to get a post card print.
