This is fantastic news!
Hello all! Thank you for all the well wishes.
MissTake, Yes I inherited PKD from my dad. It is all his fault. Unfortunately he passed from other complications in October of 2001.
Today I was forced to get out of bed, walk two steps & sit in a chair. Then they had the audacity to ask me to inhale through this breathing machine, then cough. I ripped my stitches out & hit the pain button about 10 times…LOL:D
Yay
I was wondering what the usual “kick-in” period for a transplanted kidney to start working on it’s own is. Anybody have info on this?
Congratulations and hope everything is going well. Transplanted kidneys can start functioning immediately after being hooked up to the recipient’s circulatory system, especially with living donor transplants where there was very little time between removal of the kidney and transplantation. On the other hand, delayed graft function can happen, more commonly with kidneys from deceased donors which have extended “cold ischemia” time between harvesting and transplantation. In some cases it can take up to several weeks or more for the kidney to start working.
The doctor came by today & said it was looking good although the fluid flow was still red. Within 3 weeks they will know for sure if I have to continue dialysis for a while. After three months would know if I have to go back on the kidney list.
Just like my gastric by-pass surgery; after a few days, I am not needing as much pain meds. It still hurts when I move, but the pain is dull as Dora.
Looking forward to getting out of the hospital, but gonna miss the vacation time…
The staff at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland are amazing. I am talking about all the staff that worked on my floors from doctors to janitorial staff. <3<3<3
Your staff report is good news. Good staff will make things easier. It’s amazing the difference that makes.
Best wishes for the recovery and onward.
Best wishes for a speedy and painless recovery. I will put you on my prayer list.

A fellow we knew through my husband’s work was murdered (hit and run driver as the friend was crossing the street). The family opted to donate his organs. At the wake, his brother pointed out that several other families were having a much better Christmas than they had expected.
